Their 11th place finish was rather disappointing here. Interesting that many of the top couples used this piece of music not only in 1994 but also in 2006 as well (including Navka herself with her future partner Roman Kostomarov). Video duration: 353 seconds This couple shot up the rankings at these worlds with a 5th place finish (although I had them at least 4th). They seemed like rising stars but they faltered at the following worlds (interestingly with the same free dance although not performed nearly as well) and they parted ways soon afterwards. Nevertheless, I really love watching their fluid handholds and their galloping yet smooth strokes. They still deserved the gold medal though since much of the material from 96 just wasn't up to scratch. In fact, I'd argue that 1996 was a very weak year for ice dance in general. Video duration: 294 seconds Krikanova (or Krykanova) and Platov are probably the most successful junior ice dance team ever in history because they won the junior worlds 3 times (in 84, 85, and 86). The partnership ended right after juniors though. This FD is definitely a product of its time. I'm guessing the last section was a tribute to Moiseeva & Minenkov (their 1980 FD). Video duration: 248 seconds Evgeni Platov and his old partner Larisa Fedorinova (note that she is not the partner he won the 1984, 1985, and 1986 Junior Worlds with - that was Elena Krikanova). I found this FD to be kind of bland and non-descript but you can see their talent (smooth edges and handholds). They finished a very promising 6th.
