This is my first time snorkeling and I was using a cheapo camera so no awards for camera work. The best area was Turquoise Bay in Exmouth which was mind blowingly beautiful. Within seconds of walking in off the beach its like swimming into a marine fish tank.

Shit that's a big offset. No wonder you broke an axle. As with most thinge extreme, you need a weak spot in your driveline. One easy to repair and the cheapest (if possible). An example of my driveline weak spots are - rear is so strong ,my driveshaft will go before transfer, diff, axles etc. The front is also maxidrive but? I have fitted standard Britpart cv's. If it goes it only costs me $150. Don't worry about salisbury as could be hard to get, Internals are what you are after.

I have OME set up under my 300tdi defender. The one with the salisbury rear. It's been filled with Maxidrive locker, axles and drive flanges. So far unbreakable. With this set up I have? substantially more flex than the td5 or puma standard. Plus mine doesn't have swaybars. Your early videos show how a well driven td5 extreme is so capable that mods are not really needed to get to most places. Well done and good luck to future plans.

Mr Flaps what a brilliant name!!!! I have opted for Old Man Emus which I am very happy with. I think they are one of the best in their price? range. But then if you asked someone with ironman shocks he would probably say the same about those. Hope this helps. (probably not) But whatever you chose will be an improvement on the stock shocks. Especially on a full time 4wd system, you should lock? the diffs as little as possible, it puts far too much strain on the gears. Case in point. The Alvis Stalwart. 6X6, amphibious, go-absolutely frikin' anywhere troop transport of the British Army. Can climb anything, and ford everything else. Show it some tarmac though, and it just chews up all six diffs, and spits bits of gears everywhere.

Defender's only have a centre locker as standard. even if it's locked, a wheel in the air will spin. (I have? no traction control at all, I drive a 1972 Series III) Driving on loose surfaces with the lockers off will do no harm at all, it's only by locking things together that you create stress traps, otherwise every time you drove a car without lockers, off road, it's blow up. Of course, locking is better for traction, but if you're a decent driver, you'll rarely need them. I usually use 2WD.

When you 4WD you want the drive to go to the wheel that has traction, so the one on the ground. Not to the one in the air with no traction. That's why you should have the diff lock on in slippery surfaces and off on hard surfaces. Trust me, if you keep driving as per your video without the centre diff lock on, you'll break it. At the moment you are relying totally on the traction control. A good test is doing a stall start on a very steep hill. Do it once with diff lock on, then? without.

You'd think, but no. When the diff is unlocked, and a wheel slips, the torque has an easy escape, it all shoots to the free wheel and waves around doing nothing. When the diff is locked, it never lets the strain off, and as the axles rotate at different speeds, it actually 'winds up' in the gears and shafts. This will break something, every time. Whether the thing that breaks is traction, or a mechanical component, is dependant on conditions of terrain and? components.

This is because the rear axles are turning together with the front. Try it. Do a hill with the diff lock in, then without. I guarantee you will see the difference. Also when you are? on dirt roads. With the diff lock engaged you will feel the Defender handle much better. I reckon the rule is, light on when on slippery surfaces no matter what speed, light off on hard surfaces.

I don't know what country you are living in, but i'm in australia and I have a Defender with a rear diff lock. It is a maxi drive unit that was made locally and? would have to say that along with the maxi drive axles and drive flanges is probably the strongest driveline units money (and may I say, lots of it) can buy.

Just checked it again. Turns out we're both right in a way. In my country, all Defenders (with the exception of about 10) are owned by the government, for military and NGO use. Apparently a company installs rear diff locks to all of them. In so doing, the lever is changed and shows a selection for both the centre & rear diff lock. A friend has a privately owned one and it only has the? centre lock... but knowing I've seen the rear lock on all up to now, I never bothered to check his

No I live in England and many of my friends still have land rovers. Im sorry to tell you this But land rover have never fitted a rear diff lock to a defender as standard equipment or an option in? any country. The diff lock only works on the center differential hence why it is part of the transfer case lever. If your so sure of what you say then why dont you you post up a cross axle video showing the non existant factory rear diff lock.

Seeing you have a Jeep now I'm assuming you're in America?! Well I could only speak for non-US spec? Defenders and they all have a REAR diff lock, at least the ones sold in my territory. Defenders have permanent four wheel drive, and the transfer case lever has high, low, and neutral positions on the right side, and over on the left is the rear diff lock.

Defenders do not come with front or rear axle diff locks. The diff lock lever only locks the center differential. I had 3 defenders before changing to a jeep wrangler.? Wrangler rubicons come with front and rear diff locks.

i liked this amateur video for some reason. it's fun to get blown. i said "wow" about one second before dad said "wow" at that beautiful bay at 2:48. sissy's close up for wind energy was cool. and so was the bison. just watch out for the sting rays! (crikey)?

Ive been to Australia a couple times and was looking to go back for a visit sometime. This looks like it would be a good stop after flying halfway around the globe. A? place to recharge for a few days and catch a few fish before hitting Perth for a little faster paced action.

Thanks. We love Esperance also. The sand is so white and clean. We are heading back to Albany this Christmas when it will be warmer.? Gonna do some more exploring and snorkeling. Thanks for your nice comments.

Thank You. This was shot in June and was our first trip to Albany. We published the video to show my parents, who live in England, that we are living well here in WA. I have owned this beautiful car ( Thanks Dad ) for 2 months. I have the certificate of title from the previous owner who lives the other side of the World to me. I thought that I would Google Earth the address and see if I could find the car outside its previous address.
