I see that you really need to consult your physics textbook again. Firstly, I think you feel for the same trick that the Greeks fell for. When Drag=Thrust, it does not necessarily mean that there is no motion. Newton's first law about inertia is clear. The way I explain is as follows: Assume a laminar flow in which there are two molecules of air right at the forward tip of the wing. They separate at this point as one follows the upper surface and the other the lower. For flow to be laminar, these need to meet at the aft end of the wing but since the upper surface is curved thus longer, the upper molecule has? to move faster. Bernoulli has shown that a higher velocity creates a lower pressure. So pressure above is less than below. Hence, LIFT!

I teach Aero and Systems at University to ATPL students and I start by making a paper plane and asking them how it flies to demonstrate that a wing does not need camber, just AOA. if they began with how hang gliders or sailboats or kites worked and then moved on to wings it would alleviate all of this confusion.

Yes I understand. The trick is that starting with Bernoulli inevitably leads to the equal transit time theory or the 'venturi' effect-neither of which is true. The increased? pressure on the underside is caused by AOA. They also tend to talk about the air accelerating over the top of the wing (causing lower pressure) which is largely untrue as shown by Holger Babinsky's wing in smoke lines video. Bernoulli's theorem can measure what is happening but it does not explain why.

I think the reason for starting with Bernoulli is to show how in general having a higher pressure below the wing than above the wing will cause lift (or force against gravity). 5:30 is the end of that discussion, after which they start talking about "the real reason" (IMO) That wings produce lift (chord lines, relitave flow, angle of attack etc). The Bernoulli stuff is just? to get the brain past the barrier of Stalls being something to do with engines. (ie: gliders stall too)

While they start with Bernoulli (no V's or T's) they quickly move to deflection of flow (turning flow if you wish) to discribe supercritical wings. Most (non-supercritical) wings work with a mixture of both principals. Bernoulli however does not discribe stall, If Bernoulli were the only factor in flight, Stalls would never happen since even an aoa of 89 degrees would run the same.? This is obviously not the case. Id say 90 to 100% of lift is Deflection of flow depending on wing

Lift is caused by turning flow.Turning flow is caused by angle of attack not wing shape If? their lift explanation was correct supercritical wings wouldn't work, neither would. hang gliders Flat plates generate lift very well.
