You wouldn't see where i'm coming from. I don't like those kind of singers and Derek plays slide like they sing. It sounds the same. Duane Allman wasn't the greatest slide guitarist either, but he is better sounding to me than? Derek. Derek only sometimes sounds like Duane, but most people seem to think because he is related to the drummer of Allman Brothers Band, that he is as good as Duane on slide. Good thing Duane knew how to play in standard tuned as well, unlike Trucks.

What he is saying TRUE. As a guitar player it is critical to stay? within your element & play with soul and feel. When I started playing 35 years ago, there weren't as many players that had mastered flashyfast technique. Now-a-days go into any guitar center and you'll hear a lot of younger players rattling off a cascade of lead runs they learned from their guitar teacher or from youtube but you don't hear many players who really understand the language and expression elements of a solo.

I disagree. You're right when you say the guitar has more capabilities than a solo. Tell me how he exceeds them in depth, and what is beyond a guitar solo? Playing? a good rhythm guitar is much easier than nailing a solo. You sound like minded. All 3 are excellent players. Only one of them has been playing with clapton for the last year(for a good reason:soloing capabilities) and his name is derek trucks.

This video wasn't about showing who's the best guitarplayer.? Just a interview with some soft jam. That is not Frusiantes sound at all, and he just got along with same simple bluerytm. I prefer John frusciante because im inlove with his sound and the whole RHCP. But i like the other two guys, they are great bluesguitarplayers, and probably great on others styles too :)

Either way Derek Trucks is the greatest? guitar play to ever live (in my humble opinion). He is a master of dynamics and expertly crafts every solo he embarks on. Let's give it up for the band too. Did you hear how they brought the volume way down when Derek Started his solo and slowly brought it to a climax? Nice.

This is a poorly miced version, but with fine playing by Derek. However, my favorite? version is by Luther Allison, available on YouTube, just key in: key to the highway luther allison. They have a cleaner, warmer sound than metal. I do agree that glass slides are a pain for breakages though; I've had two glass slides break on me within the past year. I'm currently using a Dunlop slide that's essentially a chunk of solid? machined brass with a 1/4" thick wall and, unsurprisingly, I can't say that I've ever had it break on me.

I "think" this is a bonus track from the Derek Trucks Band? album called "Songlines", from 2006. The Derek Trucks Band performed this song on NPR-- (in the USA it's "National Public Radio") -- I was trying to get a Canadian friend of mine to go see Derek in concert. He heard this, passed on it, and then when he heard the exceptionally clear version on NPR, he was cursing himself for missing the opportunity to see him play in Quebec, I think it was. He's the greatest slide player!

I am a horrible dancer...but Ive been playing guitar for 9 years and keys for 10 years. I feel Derek's playing as raw energy and virtuosity in its? purest form. And I believe he is the greatest to ever pick up an electric guitar, maybe behind Hendrix and Allman. So lots of us with musical talent, feel, and taste simply cant dance.
