When I heard a friend of mine at a camp play as an Improv pianist on melodies I showed him that I created back at home, I was blown away at how 6 or 12 second melodies could be transformed into minute long compositions, without any time to think of where he was going (except while he was playing). Life's too short was awful. I watched every episode hoping, praying it? was a slow burner. It wasn't, it's just not funny. I agree, more of a drama and i had to stop it the 2ND time I watched it just after the bus trip scene "Douglas Douglas Douglas Douglas Douglas" because? I knew it would make me cry again. i didn't enjoy lifes too short either... I watched 2 eps and turned off..it seemed directionless.. like they didn't know where to go with it..some of the lines given to the short actor were typical brentisms..and felt out of place Derek has potential as a comedy,? rather than a drama.. But its documentary again... and i've enjoyed real documentarys about this subject- that were dramatic- but real..I put extras, the office (us+uk) & seinfeld as my favourite shows btw..fix derek pls gervais!

I can't believe how harsh so many are about Derek and Maria. William Levy has been overscored every week. He is just a mediocre? dancer,who is goodlooking. Although being a very good dancer Katherine, has been overscored from day 1. Donald is better than william but they have made him work super hard for good scores. Derek is doing his best to stay in the competition in this very wierd season. IMO Roshon was the best dancer but not getting the votes. This season has been blatantly manipulated.

I'm not getting into the habit of saying Derek's choreography isn't as good because he just hasn't the calibre of contestants as he had before. If he gave Maria some of the choreography he gave Nicole say, she would just fluff it. He's accomodating for less able contestants whilst still supplying some degree of entertainment. Hardly a bad choreographer, just having to be more? adept and challenging

I actually enjoy this show very much. I don't think we should ask questions about the mental capacity of Derek's mind, it is clear that Gervais is trying to model a quirky and rather strange character for both comic/sympathy purposes.? If you open your mind to this show and throw away the prejudices then I think it can be thoroughly enjoyed. Gervais is very good at slightly sarcastic black comedy and it shines here.

I agree, its funny how when Merchant was once thought to be the man in Gervais shadow then now he is clearly the one with the real talent and? comic ability. He has no other directing style than to copy how the Office was, the held stare at camera, the same dialogue, similar facial expressions and interaction with other characters. Just look at 'Lifes too short', it was as if whatshisface was trying to play a mini David Brent?? I think that anyone with any objectivity would agree that this was painful to watch, not just for how bad it was but because you knew you were witnessing? the end of Gervais tv career.
