Starting the sentence with "And" was always thought to be a gramatical error but then in? college I found out that you can do it as long as you follow it with a strong sentence. I am half German and half English and both my grandfathers fought in WW2 - obviously on opposite sides (my english? grandfather in North Africa and my German grandfather in Normandy and the Ardennes). I honor the fallen on both sides because both had their reasons for fighting and sacrificed large parts of their lives. It makes me angry when people call the Germans evil because after all they too were all human History is simply written by the victor, but shouldn't be seen from just 1 perspective

I don't think it has been explained yet. I think the closest we get to an explanation is a comment in the first game that says that the marker found on Aegis? VII was reverse engineered from something they found on Earth. The book, Dead Space Martyr, might explain it more but I don't know.
