Depends on your software, the codec, the fps (when using NTSC? you have 30 frames per second, PAL only needs 25 fps - so less single frame pictures per second) and of coz the dimensions. I noticed it is different from software to software. With CyberLink PowerDirector v6 I created excellent HD720p PAL videos with MP2/MP3 5000 kbps CBR. You should simply try it and check also the video file before uploading. If it looks fine then upload it - if it looks ugly then try with a higher bitrate ;-)

just a personal opinion, but i've heard Apple isnt supporting Final Cut Pro much anymore. But I know Abode premiere is not only great, things like After effects that work with the video editing software, plus they just came out with the new CS6 series. just a thought, i'm going from Vegas to Premiere? here soon

No, because Windows Movie Maker is made to be an editor. I must confess when I was first making movies I used WMM as an editor and because I didn't have any money I used it for effects as well like muzzle flashes (they were not very good ones). I understand that you CAN use After Effects for video editing but it is not it's specific purpose.?

Yes, it's needed quicktime 7, but don't worry too much, while the x264 makes a better work, iMovie has bad quality output since version 6 HD, I believe Apple done this to sell Final Cut, you will notest colors are washed out and lot of noise in the dark areas. do a google search for imovie bad image quality and you will see? plenty of people talking about it.

iMovie is amazing until you export your movie and find out the video QUALITY IS GARBAGE!!! Mostly with huge banding noise on the dark images. Apple knows this problem? and does not have any interest in solving it! There'e plenty of people talking about it on the net. Apple just want to sell final cut. And on the Mac side there's not any alternative to iMovie, so you get crap!

You could just try adjusting it manually. Set the duration of each slide to something that matches the beat. Adjust the duration of the first slide a bit to get them in sync at the start. You could use iMovie's built-in function that does this, but you'd have to build the slideshow in iMovie, which means you can't use the music. You could also export from iPhoto into a video, and then import into GarageBand and adjust? the music. Lots of ways to play with it.

There might be. But I'm not familiar with one. But if the music has a steady? beat you could probably experiment to get it right. Or, you could use iMovie and set each photo up manually to match the beat. It will take work, though.

caren, I was very confused by that, too. mac explained it, but it's a 2-step process. First if you have to export it out of iPhoto to a folder of your choice on your hard drive. Remember where it is? or jot down the path. Then log into youtube, navigate to the video you just made & drag and drop it in their upload window, YT prompts you. YT tells you when it's done uploading and gives you the url with the funny letters, copy and save that. But you can find it with search, too.

Well, not to worry. Youtube processes the show and makes the pictures sharper. And a bonus is that it converts the video to .flv (flash). How do I know? I downloaded doubleclicked on the file in download, and at the top it gives the file extension. Quicktime doesn't support flash, but there is a player extension that will play them. The Youtube uploader is easy? and intuitive. It takes awhile unless you have broadband.

Thank you, it worked! I had to batch convert my raw files in Lightroom, then import into iPhoto. Did what you said, took some tinkering, and iPhoto degrades the image quality downsizing for youtube, so I will learn how to import the size I want from Lightroom (just installed). Also I thought I'd get .mov format, and it gave me .m4v. I don't know if? iMovie will do .flv which is what I wanted. You didn't say what size for youtube, so I used 640X400, then came up medium which seems about right

Email isn't good for large files, you are right. No good way to "compress it" (video is already compressed). You can export lower quality (Web/Small setting). Or, don't use email -- use a file transfer service (MobileMe, DropBox,? etc.)

Here's a pickle.. Dithering should be applied only once, and dither shouldn't be applied when preparing a track for mastering, right? But according to Ableton's manual, "Live's internal signal processing is all 32-bit" and "If you are rendering at a bit depth lower than 32-bit, choose one of the dither modes". Sorry, you're right. In that case I'd use a converter like voxengo r8brain (I think it takes care of the bit depth too). The way I see it though, down-sampling doesn't have to be part of mastering. All you need for that is a software and? it does the job for you. If I were to master my music professionally, I'd ask the engineer for 2 or 3 HQ copies at different bit depths (16, 24, 32) and do the conversion to lower sample rates myself (if it's needed). So yeah, I'd do that last.

Why don't you go higher than 44.1 khz? I'm sure your tracks can benefit from a higher resolution (even if they sound great already). 96 khz would be great if your computer can handle it (for long periods of time). I personally mix at 48 khz and feel that? it does make a difference overall.

Just one question: for some reason when I hit create normal map, once the normal map has been generated parts of the detail are missing, so when I attach the normal map to my low poly model in Maya, the model has all these random smooth patches where the normal map? hasn''t done anything. If you plan on using a displacement map along with a normal map then just got one subdivision lower and it will still let you bake a normal map. If you don't plan on using a displacement map then go down to the subdivision level you wish to use in Maya then export your? normal map. My video Displacement Mapping Zbrush to Maya goes over it.

Yes, this technique is typically used for games more then an animated film or short. What you can do though is export a displacement map to get your silhouette, then export a normal map between the? 2nd highest and highest subdivision level to get your surface detail. You then can take that into your 3D application and animate that and it should render and look just liked your 2 million polygon ZBrush model.
