Also lets be clear why these schools fail. All over the country funding is cut from education.? And we all know the upper class schools dont get hit first. There are shortages of teachers, shortages of qualified teachers, they cut after school programs, they cut music programs and alot of other things. Thats why these schools fail and the students fail. Putting a mop in the hands of the kids wont change anything if they arent getting the education and guidance they need.

The note about paying local kids to take care of their own school isn't a bad idea, it's a good way to? teach kids(both poor and "rich") about respect for things and the value of work. And no I'm not some spoiled person, I've grown up in poorer neighborhoods(maybe not as bad as many of the american "projects") and I've seen how kids with no experience of respect for the things around them behave. So it wouldn't be such a bad idea to test out, or maybe prioritize the students parents as workers.

No work is not overrated. Kids have to know responsibility and work ethic. It's not "killing their souls" it's teaching them how to appreciate what they have by realizing what it takes to "get things." Money& objects don't just fall out of trees.
