And I do believe most "poor" students already have a job on the side. So basicly help these kids get? a job to pay for their studies to get a better future. Also lets be clear why these schools fail. All over the country funding is cut from education. And we all know the upper class schools dont get hit first. There are shortages of teachers, shortages of qualified teachers, they cut after school programs,? they cut music programs and alot of other things. The note about paying local kids to take care of their own school isn't a bad idea, it's a good way to teach kids(both poor and "rich") about respect for things and the value of work. And no I'm not some spoiled person, I've grown up in poorer neighborhoods(maybe not as bad as many of the american "projects") and I've seen how kids with no experience of respect for the? things around them behave. So it wouldn't be such a bad idea to test out, or maybe prioritize the students parents as workers.

My father died, & my mother put everything on the back burner including education. She worked as waitress which pays $3.25/hr +tips, and she lost her job at a salon and works out of home. The funny thing is Newt's case is much stronger than he thinks. Economic research has always found evidence against child labor laws. The children who lost jobs in third? world countries after left-wing boycotts of goods made from child labor ended up with lives in beggary and prostitution. Economic growth gets rid of child labor--not trade union cries. I started my first job at 8 years old... Today child labor laws prohibit businesses from saying "your hired" to a local kid, who may ask them for weekend or summer job. So what does a kid do today? A teen looking to "earn" a few bucks? I guess selling? drugs on the corner, is the only option for kids to make any money these days.
