Dude, I understood your gripe with his words, but I was trying to figure out (so we could both understand) what HE MEANT which is always more important than what HE SAID, even if the error was on his part. I'm sure this guy is smart enough to know that most people still follow ac organized religion, so I figured through intuition that what he MEANT by "we live in? a secular culture" was that religion isn't followed as strongly as it used to be, which isn't that much of a leap, is it?

It's not true if you take every word he says literally. Sometimes people have small little mistakes in their speech that get nitpicked to hell. While you were right in that he was wrong, I was merely trying to figure out what HE meant in spite of what the words "secular" and "theology" mean. People speak casually so I try to interpret them casually. If you get too caught up in "the rules" you're likely to miss a lot. Ultimately, you are correct, if that's what you? wanted to hear.

A good percentage do not.? I have had religion shoved in my face my whole life by people who have barely read their own scripture. You should see some of their faces when I mention cute little King David harvesting foreskins so he can bribe Old King Saul for his daughter's hand in marriage, among other things. Also, most people are secular these days in that they don't practice many of the arcane rules of their religion, like stoning adulterers or avoiding seafood.

They're talking more generally about using technology to extend our lifespans? and improve our well-being on a massive scale. That's what the notion of Transhumanism entails. What was meant by that statement is that in first world countries, what you largely have is a population which claims to be religious but doesn't really spend much time reading and? memorizing scripture or engaging in all the somber rituals that have historically characterized many religions. Churches in the US have largely become community rec centers to which everyone (including Atheists) are invited. Basketball courts out front, candy on Halloween, etc.

This is the MOST ridiculous idea I've heard from the RSA. Why on earth would anyone? want to implant chips into their bodies?! This is putting immense trust in society and assumes all technologies are benign with are no corruptable possibilities arising from them. Very good point. All of this discussion and no one asked, what do humans really need? Do they really need to progress to full trans human? The thing about technological or industrial advancement is that sometimes a change is irreversible, even when humans have made a mistake or even when events has let certain advancements take place and not others.
