this guy really does not know what he is talking about. And ahhh, the inflation rate is over 9% yearly btw, the new rules on CPI is bullshit, if you used the old method from pre 1960 its over 9%. Ever notice how portions are getting smaller? Go to a restraunt and get the house steak, woah only 8.99$ and its a 4oz steak, when not even 10 years ago 8.99 steak was the 12 oz? steak. this is just one example. the 10t we gave the banks is from tax payers, not government. bill paid it. system is fucked.

Poster needs to correct a major point, the Obama Administration removed food and fuel prices from the reported CPI. These are the two largest drivers of the cost of? living. During the Obama Administration fuel prices have increased between 150% and 200%. Food prices are a bit tricky. The price for a box may remain the same but the amount contained in the box decreases. Say the medium sized box of cereal costs $4. It used to contain 18 ounces but now contain 14 ounces.

Hey, don't know if someone answered it already, but the "adding of? zeros" is a complete different situation because everybody receives proportionally and equally the same amount of "new money" so they just have to adjust prices by increasing the same amount of new zeros. The printin of new money is a problem due the non-neutrality. Few people will get new money without having to produce, getting something for nothing. By the time the new money arrives to the "other side", prices will have risen.

My intent? in all this was to prove the case that calling it counterfeit money does not weaken the argument but strengthens. It hits much harder because under the poor logic of those "other smart people" you refer to is the truth that they are stealing. Either directly or by aiding and abetting. Just because a democratic majority has decided to legalize counterfeiting does not negate the theft in the purest sense of the law. So, yes the Fed is legal under US law. remember the point of a currency isn't to maintain wealth distribution, but price stability. My share of the wealth should shrink if i'm doing nothing but sitting on a currency, but the amount of goods I could have bought with the currency when I earned it should not go down? over time - that is price preservation NOT value preservation. Because the supply of gold is mostly stable gold tends to be deflationary. Imagine a small model economy in which you own 1 gold bar, this bar exchanges for 1/5th of all the goods and services in this economy. that 7% is a figure ? based on a research done in the UK years ago, the people interviewed were either paying rent, or paying off a mortgage (the biggest expense), then spending on all other things. If they left their money in cash, it would lose 7% of its buying power in a year! that's 7% inflation. For people who live on rent, it can be even higher, since rent increases alone can hardly be absorbed.

the price of gold does NOT determine the price of the dollar - now your moving into international economics. Inflation is the correlation between printed money/credit moneys and the cost goods that are associated with them through the stock market and the commodities markets. If a company lays off 2% of it's staff and sees a quarterly profit return by putting people on the street, investors might buy that stock. They see the profit not the mismanagement. Because you won't be able to get it for $9 Physical, as people rush to tangible goods, those with money will buy up everything available the moment it? becomes available. As it stands now, Gold and Silver have only recently started hitting highs causing people to take notice and start stocking away some savings in metals to protect themselves against inflation, but most still have zero physical metal, and physical is still hard to get at times and runs much higher in price.

Thank you! While I have been preparing for such an event,? the closer we seem to get to the endgame, the more people just go on about their business. 90+% of people I encounter are not woken up. As long as their perception is everything is ok, it has to keep on going. The system is too large now. If they just keep putting all the? extra money into derivatives, then the public will never perceive inflation as it truly should be. It's one thing if you had a billion dollars into your account, you'd want access to it. I think they have a deal where no matter how much money the bank needs, it will get, and if it's behind closed doors to keep the paradigm afloat, then so be it. Even when the market collapsed in 08, they worked it out.

Around here small portable compressors have gauges and big ones at service stations usually have a "limiter" - you can choose your target pressure. And all cars have a plate with recommended pressure for each wheel. For me not really a step forward. And electronic? sensors can fail. When I'm doing weekly thorough cleaning I always check tires as well as oil and coolant level and a dozen other things.

I check my tire pressure every few weeks to keep them all within 0.5-1.0psi of each other. It's not really a chore but i've done it for years now and it's? more a habit than anything. Part of a good maintenance ritual. A digital tire pressure guage is about 10 dollars and well worth the investment in my opinion. Not only does tire pressure affect fuel economy, but handling and more importantly tire wear. Tires are expensive. Checking the tire pressure is not.

Currency is relative in the global market. As long as all major industrial powers are inflating at a near same rate; then global price will stay stable. if your suggesting going back to a pegged standard I would look at what happened to the Swiss? economy/currency in 2009/10. they couldn't export b/c cost became cheaper elsewhere which ends up hurting GDP.

I agree. another? thing that academics point is that prices in the 20´s were constant and didn´t rise or fall, they were stable. What the fail to consider is that although there was price stability, that didnt meant that there hasn´t been inflation. Prices didn´t skyrockted because there was a lot of productivity in the US at that time, so the productivity neted out the inflation. Also the Fed in the 20´s fix the interest rates to low and that was a cause of the Buisiness Cycle and the GD.

Even though I'm a huge fan of Friedman, I'd have to disagree with his view on the great depression and go with the Austrians. The deflation wasn't the reason of the GD but a consequence. The Fed expanded the money supply during the 20's, but since the dollar? was pegged to gold, it had to go back to the same level when it busts.(or meet half way as FRD did in 1933 with the confiscation and price jump) Am-I-rite?

QE is just a? symptom of a larger problem. The US government enforces a monopoly on the legal tender in our country which is issued by a privately owned corporation called the federal reserve. Every federal reserve note in existence is created as the principal on a loan so the interest on this debt can only be repayed by borrowing ever greater amounts of money. Like the Great Depression? when there was deflation, and according to Austrian measurement methods the dollar gained value? There is actually almost no legitimate evidence that hasn't been shredded showing what you claim, but like all Austrian theories you can just blame the statistical methods without looking at them and rely on your theory.

Is European use of the dollar as a hedge right now really the big influence keeping inflation down? I'm thinking American factors are greater, like the current psychological state of the American consumer. If hirings continue though at a high enough rate, and it? has the effect on consumer mood that I suspect it will, I guess we'll find out.

Gold has been used as a medium to stamp a value on, for fiat currencies, as far back as the Roman empire. Currently there are no currencies that stamp their value on gold. Gold is just a? commodity like wheat or corn. At the end of the day, gold only has value in dollars. Hedge funds aren't selling gold anymore. The lowest Gold got was in the low $1,500s but now Gold is trading at $1,722 an oz. and is still climbing up. What was that you were saying about the Gold Bubble bursting? Gold isn't a bubble, so you're sadly mistaken. Treasury Bonds are though, and that bubble is soon to burst? within the next year or three.

Anybody who says that inflation is good, and that higher prices is good don't know the basic principle of economics. The basic principle of a any economy is to "economize." To economize is to create things cheaper, less use of physical labor to make thing easier, even safer. Ask a engineer what a goal of a engineer is.
