I am the proud owner of a 2012 wrangler sport S. Any bad things you've heard just are not true. The horsepower from the engine is amazing. The 2 door still has plenty of cargo space, only second to the wrangler unlimited. Chrystler group was bought by Fiat and they have made the new wrangler a luxury vehicle that is more off road capable than ever. The grand cherokee power train and all aluminum Pentastar? engine was introduced, which yields an enormous boost in performance on and off road.

I've personaly only owned one Jeep, an 89 Jeep Cherokee 4-door, 4.0L auto. I loved that thing, but I hit a deer with it late at night at about 55mph and it never ran the same even after I repaired the damage and replaced the broken parts. Traded it in for a 95 Dodge Dakota, 5.2L? V8 auto ext cab 4x4.

the best Jeep any of my family members ever had was my dad's 79 CJ-7 Golden Eagle, 304 AMC V8 and a 4-speed. My dad went through several engines and transmisions from water logging them while off-roading. Lots of fun memories as a kid in that old Jeep. Once while offroading? my dad hit a nard bump and my hit the rollbar. I actualy dented the rollbar. Hurt like hell. Sadly he got tired of replacing drivelines and the body was falling apart, so he sold it and bought a 79 F-250 SuperCab longbed.

i would not have went higher than 44's but if your keeping those tires you need? a bigger lift and probably gonna want 2.5 or 5 ton running gear. hopefully you have a good tranny like the turbo 400 with that tbi 350. Working on my 87.

Cute trail :) it is probably a lot harder than it looks. But us California folk run rocky rutted terrain so this actually don't seem that bad IMO, I have a Cherokee with 4.5"? of lift on 31's locked in the rear and she's never let me down, it's all about driver skill having a good spotter and knowledge of when more skinny pedal is needed oh... And i think peer pressure is always a big factor too :)

I've always heard that tires are the number one mod. No matter what kind? of wheeling you do, you need traction. After that it depends on the kind of wheeling you normally do. My old 4Runner (RIP) had stock suspension, motor, gears etc and it wasn't locked front or rear. My first mod was BFG MTs and around here (FL) that was all I needed. If I still had it, I would working on lockers and a mild lift to help cope with the mud around here. Different trucks for different places.

Most of my stuff was used. someone wanted out of their JK so I bought everything but his jeep. he put it back to stock and sold it. lucky me. 5 aluminum skids,? rock rails, front and rear bumper, polished aluminum wheels, teraflex 8arm adjustable high flex lift, KC lights, 9500lbs superwinch, help to install it all..... $1800. cheap. gears are coming soon though

@zachandandy - when I was saying get axles for your goals I was meaning get the axles for your tire size goals. build them with lockers, gearing, mounting, etc. but dont put them on? you have them.? sometimes very hard to find and right parts perhaps. just have them ready to go. then buy tires and lift. put them on at once. done. (well jeeps are never done) but do what you want. I have a JKU Rubicon. 37" 4" lift, axles are good (I strengthened the front), but I dont have gearing

- the winch is #1 cause no matter what you build, how much you build it up you will need a winch and, as you say, will need to drag it around...LOL. it is true. but rarely does anyone do it. but if you talk to any 4x4 expert (which I am not, just experienced) they will tell that yes? armour and winch is a great place to start. lift and tires on stock axles depending on your goals may leave you stranded on the trail. 37"s or bigger would just break. cont'd

I've built a few jeeps, and have to disagree with your order of build. I have always wheeled my? jeeps as I built them, so armor would be # 1, or just give up on straight sheetmetal entirely. Then I would say lift and tires. Then build the axles you want and swap. With your order, I'd of had 1 ton axles, stock tires, and no ground clearance? I guess thats why the winch was #1, so you could drag the jeep around the trails?

It is better than an h2 and an h3 and rock crawling is a much more hard core type of rock crawling and the Jeep is much better than the h1. Every time i go to off roading events we? always see the hummers taking pics of us and they can only take the regular dirt road with small bumps in the because there to big and wide and not fully designed for offroading like the Jeep and H1 are ment for going through thick sand and mud not going straight up like a Jeep.

Milage and the 6.4 hemi is still only like 15/22 in the new Charger, so that's not any better. Plus the gearing and large tires on Jeeps would make it even worse. My point to the original? commenter was that if you're not offroading and you buy a jeep, then don't complain about the milage they get. They're great at what they're meant for.

I think Dodge is the worst offender of the big 3 when it comes to MPG on a whole. There are not plenty of vehicles that get worse mileage let alone way worse. Over 90% (est) of all? vehicles made get better mileage than the 2012 Jeep Wrangle. They should just put the 6.4 Hemi in it and be done with it! I would be happy and pay!

I was just in Hawaii and rented a new Wrangle Unlimited and really liked it, had loads of fun in it too! Had to put her into 4Lo a few times =P Cost about $75 to fill at 4.46gal and I was? getting about 440miles out of a tank, but there were hills and turns everywhere. The new engine and transmission are pretty sweet!

I have a 06 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 and I must say for it being an 06 and not haveing all the new features my jeep handles very well. It's a great off roader take out to the mud when ever I get a chance due to the fact that I do live in Arizona. On the streets it handles like magic nice? smooth ride and it picks up speed like never before Jeep are the best off road vehical and travel vehical I owned that and chevy truck are also one of the best ones I have both.

Generally people thinking MODERN land rovers compare to Grand Cherokee or Cherokee off-road is with out a doubt ignorant. Land rover had a good era but its long gone as far as comparing to Jeep off-road. I bought a JGC 2011 Laredo X. LOVE IT!!!! Soooo comfortable for my 5'11" height and bad back. Very peppy and quiet - you have to watch your speed as it's so easy to go over the limit and not notice it. Very reliable so far (36,000 km). You get alot for your money and with the engine and tranny changes since 2010 I feel 100% sure I made the right choice. Go ahead and rent one and you'll be a convert.? After renting one I had to buy.

@Jasshands1 I hope you are enjoying you new Jeep. We enjoy own Rubicon. I used to work in auto sales and i found if you buy a used car check the Carfax for repairs. If you see a lot stay away. This goes for any brand. The older Land Rovers (pre-2005) were not great. Lots of little gremlins. nothing that would leave you stranded. I have some neighbors with newer ones and we have all been very happy. I have the most miles on my 08' @ 82k.? One has a LR4 and I am jealous of the power.

wow really, I was planning on trading my 04 jag in for a newer lr3, but I read all the horror stories and how only some were good, I've always wanted one but after owning the jag, i Kinda had enough. The problem I had with jag wasnt teh motor or anything, it was stupid things like the heater, or the locks, transmission.... you get the idea. Good to know though, what year? is it?

The? LR3 currently has almost 82,000 miles. NO break downs. Oil changes every 5,000 mile, brakes done about every about every 30,000 miles and tires about every 25,000 miles. Other than that this truck is NOT pampered. It is taken off road more often than my Rubicon because of back country camping with the family. I never owned a Rover before this one and have been very happy with the decision. The main reason I bought it was it had 7 seats. Hope this helped, Ha Ha Ha.

Trust me! Land rover have never sold defenders with factory axle? diff lockers. They are available aftermarket but never ever a factory option in any live axle land rover model. I had a 50th anniversary V8 D90 and I built a 1983 station wagon that I converted to a crew cab, put a carbed 3.9 and 4spd ZF transmission in it with 35" Grabber MT's! I still work on my dads old 2 door range rovers so i know land rovers inside out!

Yes but ONLY engage 4Hi When the? environment features a slippery or loose surface (ice, powder snow, etc). Do not drive on non slippery pavement in 4Hi. You can drive the vehicle in 4Hi as long as it is needed. But disengage 4 Hi when not in a slippery or loose environment otherwise the driveline will bind up. It's not good for it, and can result in an expensive repair. If you want Full time 4WD, I suggest you look at Quadra-trac.

Defenders, Old model range rover classic's and old model discovery dont have the viscous coupling. Later model range rover classic's and discovery with the ZF 4 speed auto have the viscous coupling in the borg warner transfer case. They are prone to seizing up and snapping the CV joints in the front axle. Land Rovers center diff lock does nothing more than any other 4x4 vehicle? in part time 4x4.

they can't sell this particular model because for some fucked up reason Jeeps with diesel engines cannot be sold or driven in the U.S. and i have no idea why emmissions compliance has anything? to do with it.. diesel = better fuel economy.. idk

You and the other guy you? are fighting with are both halfway right and wrong. As someone who is unbiased, I own 4 military humvees and one Jeep YJ as well as several m151's(if you don't know what they are look them up), I will say that both Jeep and Humvee are great offroading vehicles. One upside of the jeep is that it can fit through narrower spaces. Btw if you don't believe me, I will post a video (upon your request) of me getting inside of my armored one and starting it up in my front yard.
