I'm perhaps sounding like a broken record. But I'll say it again. I would enjoy hearing someday an album by Lang entitled, "k.d. Lang Sings Frances Fay." Both are equally independent in their approaches to life.? I can just hear in my mind's eye Lang opening the album with Fay's "The Thrill Is Gone." I don't want to get carried away here. When I hear kd sing Hallelujah, I wind up in my own little world. Her voice is angelic, and I agree that she is a phenom. I listened to her sing this song for hours, and although I? didn't cry each time I listened to it, I cried numerous times, because of the beauty in her voice. I've never heard her say whether she thinks she has a good voice or not, but at the end of this song, the way she smiles, she knows she did a WONDERFUL job, as we all do. Simply amazing.

I have waited 22 years to hear and see this performance again.? It was cathartic experience for me. I had never heard KD Lang before. I sat in my livingroom watching my this tribute on my 13 inch color in the company of my 5 year old daughter. I was mesmerized with the power of it. I suppose you could put Jennifer Warnes' version (with Cohen's express blessing, BTW) or Aaron Neville's in the same category then. I prefer to see these renditions as beautiful interpretations of great poetry set to music, giving to the words? and the song a voice (or voices) that Cohen himself couldn't. His voice has the grit and pain and honesty that transcends his limited vocal range (ala Dylan, for example); but, in all instances, the truth of his lyrics remain. Peace:-)

There's much better covers of this around. She's just "singing it". I can sing it better. It's all about understanding what the lyrics are about ... which she hasn't "got". Lots of people have sung this ... and haven't sussed what Cohen's on about. This song doesn't really lend? itself to this style of singing. 'Like a bird on a wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir ... ' ever been there? She's singing "from the outside".
