Wow thanks. That surprises me that they would do that. As far as I can tell that does appear to be a bit of a failure of the free market. I have felt that way many times in the past however and later realized that there was some sort of government involvement or that I was missing some key piece of information. I'm hoping it turned out to be a bad business move and they ended up losing money on the deal thereby? teaching all other car companies in the future that it's a bad idea.

Type GM and California Public Transit into Google you will find an? example of auto industry buying out public transit.
By: landwalker88. on 13 May 12, 22:37:24
at 1:00 is when they mention child labor. I'll check out the Ludlow Massacre, I never heard of it, unless that's the thing where those people died in a fire and the doors were locked or whatever, I'm not super familiar with all the details. Gonna check it out and get back? to you.

@ landwalker88 During the period from 1936 to 1950, National City Lines and Pacific City Lines?with investment from GM, Firestone Tire, Standard Oil of California, Phillips Petroleum, Mack Trucks, and the Federal Engineering Corporation?bought over 100 electric surface-traction systems in 45 cities including Baltimore, Newark, Los Angeles, New York City, Oakland and San Diego and converted them? into bus operation.
By: bradjbourgeois73. on 13 May 12, 22:12:15
I just watched video, it didn't say anything about that either,? lol. I'm just wondering how they can they make a union video and not even mention the Ludlow Massacre!
By: landwalker88. on 13 May 12, 21:41:48
if you have even one example of the auto industry buying out public transit? please educate me. No not everybody has a bigger house, but on average people own houses that are roughly twice the size they were in the 1950's. You didn't say anything about unions ending child labor, but the video did.
By: bradjbourgeois73. on 13 May 12, 10:48:17
I can't disagree with your post for the most part. But it is necessary for most people to have two cars today since the auto industry bought out and killed all the mass transit they could... and not everybody has a? bigger house, lol. Where did I say anything about unions ending child labor? It doesn't seem to be on the thread and I don't remember posting that.
By: landwalker88. on 13 May 12, 06:33:08
it's easier today to live off one one salary than it was in the 1950's. We just want more shit today. The Average house is like twice as big now, we usually have 2 cars instead of sharing the one, that sort of thing. And unions do work out great for people in them, but most people aren't in unions. There's nothing wrong with workers banding together, but when they? get special treatment from the government it negatively effects everyone else. Unions ended child labor? lmfao

Do you know that Christianity? is correct? The world around us reveals that G-d DOES exist, and the? historical evidence reveals that Jesus Christ really did come to this earth and there is overwhelming evidence that Jesus Christ really did physically rise from the dead. Jesus is coming again and the signs of the end times that were foretold in the Bible are coming to pass.

Look up the concept of "regime uncertainty" or the work showing how bad the deomstic economy was duruing WWII or "The Great Depression of 1946" (which must have happened if Keynes were correct) or read "America's Great Depression", "The Roosevelt Myth", "FDR's Folly"? or simply "Economics in One Lesson" (or better still Bastiat's essay "What is Seen and What is Not Seen" available on-line) or "Meltdown" about the current crisis - that's the tip of the iseberg.
By: qwerty0900. on 29 Apr 12, 00:50:19
i see your point and it is a valid argument - against the keynsian way of managing the economy including its influence in the new deal and FDR policies. but things are not as good as they were and i believe there are some lessons to be learned form this era. in other words im not persuaded by it. but thats all im goning to say about that.? if you want to throw sources, research, books, whatever, at me ill read it.
By: FletchforFreedom. on 29 Apr 12, 00:01:26
The actual free market policies that I DO advocate have worked in literally every case. There has never been an example of governmnet intervention having a beneficial impact on the economy (the twin canards about either the New Deal or WWII bringing the Great Depression to an end - or even worse the idicy that it was caused by capitalism - have been so completely? debunked even many pro-FDR historians have left that sinking ship).
By: FletchforFreedom. on 28 Apr 12, 23:58:53
And it is quite clera that you are incapable of grasping a simple sentence in English. At NO TIME did I concede your imbecilic point that the "Washington consensus" is not about governmnet intevention since, as anyone with an IQ higher than that of pulverized coprolite (look it up) knows, OF COURSE it's all about governmnet intervention. That;s just another point you have gotten completely (and? inexcusably) wrong. You'r an embarassment.
By: FletchforFreedom. on 28 Apr 12, 23:56:29
No, my collegaues in economica and history including Prof. Gavin Kennedy - the foremost authority on Adam Smith extant - who said some kind things about my publications on Smith's work. None of what I have said has anything to do with "neo-liberal" anything. The full body of research? completely obliterates your uneducated and unimformed positions. You have yet to provide anything that rises to the level of an actual "point" - just falsehoods, nonsense, and baseless insults.
By: qwerty0900. on 28 Apr 12, 23:48:31
and i know the imf is full of corruption. didnt need your dumb ass to enlighten me about this. their free market policies still dont work, and that is? a fact you cant escape. they impose them with full knowledge that they dont work.
By: qwerty0900. on 28 Apr 12, 23:39:10
your youtube colleagues? that you claim to b an expert to? while in reality you cant realize the washington Consensus is neoliberal ideology? and that is the problem with free markets, they favour the elites. more money = more power and influence. congrats, you just learned something. that was my point. good to see you realized the washington consensus is not 'government intervention' like you previously state.you contradicted, but yet, corrected yourself.your 'colleagues' will? be impressed.
By: FletchforFreedom. on 28 Apr 12, 23:14:35
Yes, the ignorant frequently laugh? when they have no valid argument. That Washington elites wish to liberate certain aspects of the market while controlling far more is obviously not an example of free markets (that you actually believe that's what the Washington consensus is demonstrates a naivete so profound ... can you walk and chew gum at the same time? I don;t have to prove anything to you and I don;t need an ignoramus such to validate my reputation with my colleagues.
By: qwerty0900. on 28 Apr 12, 22:41:06
you make me laugh. Washington consensus includes financial and trade liberalization, privatization, reducing? the role of the state, and so on. this is free market ideology. and free markets require government policies to make it so. its a paradox that extreme right wing neo-conservatives, such as yourself, fail to realize. you pompous self proclaimed 'economic historian'. i know you are no historian or expert, so stop pretending to be. i know historians; you are not one of them. ur just dumb.

Do you even read what you post?!?! The WASHINGTON (government - NON-free market - HELLO!!!!) consensus BY DEFINITION is not "free market ideology". At this point,? you're just embarrassing yourself (actually from the outset).
By: FletchforFreedom. on 28 Apr 12, 12:21:00
Again, only a blithering idiot identifies the IMF and? World Bank policies as having ANYTHING to do with the free market (which perhaps explains your position). That IMF and WB economists don't speak about global corruption (actually they do quite a bit - your "facts" are pure BS yet again), that doesn't alter the fact that free market principles are actually entirely consistent with actual democracy. I'm not the only one who can read certainly (but you are not among us).
By: FletchforFreedom. on 28 Apr 12, 12:17:16
Yes, in this case, you are obviously wrong (even if I weren't an economic historian). That I am is merely the reaon it is so obvious that you are completely wrong. The? problem with your fantasies is that there is NO SUCH LITEARTURE that opposes the points that I have been making. The evidence is overwhelming in the literature that the points I have been making are correct. I teach the subject and refine my arguments against stupidity here - thanks for helping in that regard.
