Somalia, as with with dozens of african countries, is symptomatic of dysfunctional government. My understanding of the Great Depression is that it wasn't Roosevelt's New Deal policies which got the economy back on its feet, it was World War II and the massive government expenditure which put just about every American of working age in employment and maximized our productive capacity. I'd prefer we did what every other nation did that century...freed the slaves via emancipation via renumeration to slave owners. The government buying slaves in every other nation worked w/o ending in lynchings, the death of today's equivalent of 6 million Americans, and equality progressed faster.
