Not all libertarians are anarchists but all anarchists are? libertarians.
By: Samsgarden. on 27 May 12, 00:53:42
Yes, but many libertarians swear by The Constitution as a guide for small government in America.? The tenth amendment is somewhat anti-libertarian. -I'm playing the devil's advocate here :-)
By: Samsgarden. on 27 May 12, 00:43:27
Maybe. I'll have to consult Stefan Molyneux. Most anarchists aren't opposed to law? and order, like the punk stereotype would have it, however, depending on which end of the political spectrum they stand, they advocate privatisation or co-opted utilities, industry etc. Chomsky would probably best fit the last category and your description of local democratic government. Anarcho-capitalists generally deride democracy.
By: Coda1337ZORZ. on 26 May 12, 14:58:55
Anarchism is not zero government. It is just opposed to hierarchical, oppressive forms of government.? Anarchists would advocate stronger local governments which are completely democratic where everyone has a say.

I think his views on libertarianism sound a little like agnosticism; taking a very? "hands-off" approach and being open to others' thoughts and views. He's a pretty cool guy.

By: MarvelDcImage. on 26 May 12, 13:29:57
Is that your way of giving up? Israel? is a s socialist as you can get with universal health care. How is that given as a defense against libertarianism/right wing small govtism?

By: 798unionpipeliner. on 26 May 12, 08:12:28
Libertarianism is anarchism, and anarchism is? incoherent, because anarchy is unsustainable. I.e., anarchy will inevitably lead to oligarchy, which is exactly what happened in the? South after Reconstruction. In other words, libertarianism does not, ultimately,? lead to universal freedom or any kind of equality. What it leads to--quickly--is oppression of the weak and poor by the strong and rich. It's just another word for social Darwinism. Libertarians are either idiots or psychopaths. Or both

Israel? is a socialist state. If the Jews are so smart they chose socialism as the ideal form of economics over limited govt. Sucker.
By: Samsgarden. on 26 May 12, 00:22:39
Israel is prosperous because of Jewish determination -not because of cent. govt. Put a Jewish homeland anywhere and they will succeed. It's also the beneficiary of U.S. Dollars-like you say, but it need not be. I haven't missed anything, look to history and most all parts of the African continent have experienced despotism, to say Somalia now has zero? govt is correlation on your behalf; they lack rights, education, knowledge & determination. Anarchism is zero govt. Libertarian is limited govt.
By: MarvelDcImage. on 26 May 12, 00:14:54
Somalia was better under the commies than it is now. ?
By: Psilocybong420. on 25 May 12, 23:25:22
Just think how much? better this country (u.s.) would be with a libertarian in the white house and total control of both houses.
By: yescharliesurfs. on 25 May 12, 22:41:12
In fact you are wrong. We can look at countries that took and have taken a market approach to the same issue, when? at the same level of wealth as the United Kingdom at the point in time when the welfare state and compare the results. I don't have statistics and indeed my argument was post hoc. It seems to have taken a long time to move such little distance.
By: StateExempt. on 25 May 12, 21:37:35
Post hoc ergo propter hoc. If those programs depended on taking money out of the economy then you cannot assume they created a surplus compared? to a market approach.
By: StateExempt. on 25 May 12, 21:35:09
You seem to have conveniently left out what Somalia was like BEFORE? 1991 when it DID have a government. A failed communist state in a third world country is a poor indicator for what total free enterprise and a lack of victimless crime laws would look like in America.
By: MarvelDcImage. on 25 May 12, 15:54:11
My point is that the American libertarian ideal of limited govt up to zero govt is the best way to run a country (let's face it they really argue for almost zero govt) is nonsense and you mention Israel and Somalia. My point, since you missed it is that? Somalia has zero govt and it's a hell hole of violence and slavery and violence. Israel is a highly centralized and socialized state and is as you say flourishing (though America does give them billions).
By: Samsgarden. on 25 May 12, 15:09:16
Wait, you're conflating several issues here. Mesopotamia and Egypt were pre-industrial revolution, in lieu of technology, they had empire. Somalia, as with with dozens of african countries, is symptomatic of dysfunctional government. If Israel can flourish in a desert, so can Somalia. but to say it's because of no central govt is preposterous. Haiti, again, is a third world? country symptomatic of corruption, few natural resources and like most third world countries, too reliant on foreign aid
