Cool. 21 years ago, I drove? this thing in the german army. Good memories, although I always envied the drivers of "real" tanks :-) The sound of the M113 is SAWEEET, though, always loved it.

I get the chills just looking at the APC. I lived in one of these freezing bad riding boxes for two years. Shoulder to shoulder with my friends trying to keep warm. These vehicles shook so bad driving on paved roads in convoy you could not eat or drink. You had to yell to hear above the noise. It's a great vehicle because it's NOT just an APC. It's the APC version of the Panzer IV or the Willy's MB--you can mod it heavily, uparm it, uparmor it,? etc. Has a tough suspension, a solid engine, excellent mobility on its wide tracks, an adaptable chassis, and a low price. So it's a Swiss army knife on treads. As far as an apc itself, it's mediocre. Far better armor than the BMP and a better chassis, but probably not really that much better than the Marder, Bradley, etc.

It is an APC = Armored Personnel Carrier = an armoured fighting vehicle designed to transport infantry to the battlefield.They are not usually designed to take part in a direct-fire battle, but to? carry troops to the battlefield safe from shrapnel and ambush. It only needs a heavy machinegun or grenade launcher.

I fixed and repaired all of my platoons track vehicles that made it off of deadline. Get good at something and dont expect to be promoted. It should be that those who do the most for the platoon get promoted. The ones who slack off are sent to the promotion boards. At least? back when 113's were still around. Apparently these are outdated. Yeah so there are 113-A3's. Beyond that I have no clue.

how enlightened. It's not for roaring into battle, it's for transporting troops. You take them to battle. You stop around the front lines. You charge them based on the time and gas price. You wave and give them your number to call you when they return from their trip. You then go home. It's a taxi, on treads. We have Strykers and Bradleys, but those are combat vehicles. An M113 is just a tracked van or truck? (look up M548).

I drove? these in the 80s I think they needed heaters too. I used to run the engine and remove the access panel for warmth lol that did not work very well. Four years of trying to keep the bloody things running. I dont think i ever got the oil and grease out of my skin. I still cannot hear very well in my right ear due to that noisy engine. I had fun though and am glad I left the army.

They look at everything when rating these. The fact that it has been in service forever and has been used by many forces and it is fast. While it cannot withstand a direct hit, it was probably one of the? best APC's built.

Sitting in the back, Our rifles between our legs. Its dark, cold and vibrating badly from the tracks.The entire interior of our track is covered in mud, as us. We have been on the move for ten days. We leaned against each other to keep warm. Hardaway bumps me and makes the sign asking me for a smoke, I sign back all out. Our track kept us out of the rain and snow and carried our gear and most important of all. We did not have to walk. Somewhere there is a warehouse full of APC heaters! 8TH ID?

Heaters were always breaking down. They were freakin ice boxes. Fun to drive unless it was snowing or raining. And it was always snowing or raining. Cleaning up and maintaining the oil spewing diesel engines? and the final drives was a pain too. Inexperienced drivers would often throw a track. Never felt real safe with bangalore torpedoes and other engineer ordinance on top and stowed inside. Never felt safe away from it either. I definitely had a love/hate relationship with my M113

Well the question is what else is better? A shitty LAV III derivative that if you have steel core AP shells in a 7.62*39 will go right through the wheel wells (stryker)? Or light crappy boxes that get blown up all the time because they do not have enough armor to withstand anything(homvees)? Or top heavy trucks visible from far away that get stuck in mud, are roadbound and also cannot withstand RPG-7s, and have been known to roll over into rivers and drown their crews(MRAP)? I don't see why some people here compare tanks with APCs. APCs aren't meant to actually fight,they are meant to transport infantry faster than legs do, with some degree of protection.Guns on them are an afterthought. I took part in a drill once,our mech .inf. div. was attacked by tanks.The whole point was to safely keep the M113 out of sight and try to? harass the tanks on foot,with LAW fire on their tracks and sniping any head that dared show.Only guerilla,only on foot.Anything else is suicide.

I don't know how much they replaced the Strykers. The Stryker teams were called because a big part of the? armed forces were withdrawn. The Army didn't get screwed. Esse blindado que não é tanque. Tanque é pra lavar roupa. É 1 porcaria. Quando servi em 1988 já era velho. O que tinha fora feito em 1969. No Vietnã os soldados iam no teto, pois a blindagem dele é tão fraca que 1 mina explodisse matava todos dentro. ela também não resite as RPGs e nem a calibre acima de 0,30. só vale pra desfile. its the first time i used photo etched parts for a model in this dimension, so it was a little bit odd for me but i think the result is okay. i will get used to it :) the model was weathered with drybrushing and pigments, which i also used for the first time. i applyed the pigments with Mig´s pigment fixer.

Yet again another good model, i did one similar, using my dads old tamiya kit and buying aftermarket side stowage bins and IDF extended fuel tanks and weapons for on top eg, the 50 cal and? the 2 on the sides next to the hatch in the middle. When it was complted i entered it in a comp and it won best on show :)

well, i searched a little bit. for 1/72 i would use the m113 from trumpeter, but the additional armour is a problem...i think? there would be some scratch building necessary. i´ve seen one small m113 zelda on model trade show once but i can´t remember how this guy managed it to build one.
