Actually, a few weeks ago a class of mine had a skype interview with a producer at WWE. He says that there, and at other larger professional edit houses, there is a clear migration AWAY from Final Cut Pro, and that the pro industry looks at it? as little more than an Indy tool. The clear NLE of choice for the pros is actually AVID, which runs on either OSX or Windows, thus making the entire topic of pro level video editing rather pointless in the Mac vs PC debate.

You seem to forget the fact that a Mac is a computer as well. Like any computer you can install multiple operating systems on it and boot into that partition. Just because you have a Mac doesn't mean you can't install Windows on a small partition to run games. Now if you want to run the latest games inside OS X and not deal with dual booting, there are plenty of ways to do that, but they often involve using an illegal? port.

Actually, PC's are also used for video editing on a rather large scale. Hell, my college is buying at least 5 new computers for their editing suites in the broadcasting section. They've opted to go with PC's outfitted with the Adobe Production Premium Suite, rather than Macs. The use of a computer in the editing world is per edit-house. There is? no mantra saying that Mac has any exclusive rights to this field. At all.

If you wanna limit yourself to know how? to code for only one OS, fine. Personally, I'm an editor, not a coder, so my knowledge stops at troubleshooting drivers for RAM, GPU's, and other such media intense peripherals. But, luckily, I can troubleshoot in both major OS's, which makes me twice as employable as an editor who only knows how to do so in one. Fact is, people like me HAVE to know more than one OS, because that's the field. Only people that want limited employment, stick with one OS.

You're still not a genius? for doing that. Once you know how to build a functional computer from logic gates and have a deep understanding of electron physics, then come talk to me. Also there are really smart people that only use one OS because that's enough for them. They don't see the benefits of wasting an hour or 2 getting Hacinktosh to set up or $100 for Windows. Definitely not. ? You can run Windows 98 on today's hardware, provided you don't run into driver issues, which isn't Microsoft's fault. I mean, Windows XP has been around for over a decade, and it'll run on anything these days. For Apple to tell people that their 2008-era Macs won't run on the next version of their OS smacks of an excuse to force customers to buy new Macs, which is precisely what is happening. What I do have a problem with is rampant price-gouging, because then it's no longer an issue of a company charging more for lets say, aesthetics. No, you don't really have to be that smart to navigate through BIOS and install? a third-party program that asks you what speed you want your CPU to be. Sure,smarter than my grandma, but still, not enough for bragging rights. Once you know enough lambda calculus to expertly code in Lisp and can detail to me exactly why Java's libraries are better than C++'s, then we can talk. Also, many people stick with only one OS. More unified, or not enough HDD space to double-boot.

You're right. Being able to build a computer from bare bone parts, does not a smart operator make. However, doing that PLUS being able to install all of the drivers, navigate a non-UEFI? BIOS to configure your fan speeds and RAID setup for your HDD's, as well as Overclocking your CPU...now that takes an individual who is somewhat attuned to the technical side of things, wouldn't you say? Actually, the cheapest GeForce graphics card out there, that is also 2GB, is the GeForce GT 520, which only runs as high as $60. 8GB of RAM doesn't even run $50 these days, and a 1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue (which is a standard 7200rpm HDD) can run? as low as $99. So that's $60 + $50 + $99, which comes out to $209. Building a computer with those specs, for $650 (or less) is actually VERY doable.

Speaking as someone who edits both at home and at college, there is every reason to have that kind of raw power. I have a respectable mid range laptop that can go? toe to toe with a basic iMac, for less than half the cost. I have mobility, speed, a great price point, and the ability to do all of the work of a decent iMac. Not sure about you, but to me, that's value for the money. And not NEARLY as limiting as having something as limited as an iMac.

Also, look up the SAGER NP9270, which is a laptop that can house a 6 core 3.2GHz CPU, with more bells and whistles than even your iMac there. Then there's the Falcon Northwest DRX, which actually can house a 990X and dual GTX 580's with up to 24GB RAM Next there's the Battalion 101 X7200 [2], which came with a base CPU of an i7 970. 1) My Nvidia Card is GDDR5 @ 1.5GB 2) The latest (GTX) model from Nvidia is actually the GTX 680, not 580. 3) According to ark . intel the latest mobile CPU is the i7 3920XM which has a base clock of 2.9GHz & goes up to 3.8GHz. 4) Older (by that I mean last year's models) laptops indeed used to pack the i7 980X and 990X processors. Hell, Cyber Power was even selling those bad boys for a short stint. Sorry, but? the only thing the Mac has is a monitor. If I get one of those, it has nothing.

1. I can easily hook up a 27" (or larger) 2K res monitor to my Laptop. That's the beauty of having a 1.5GB Nvidia GPU inside of the thing 2. Laptops can house CPU's with clock speeds of 3.6GHz and 6 cores. Mine is middle of the road with 4 Cores @ 2.2GHz. Then again, I can always OC my CPU, and, hell, I only paid $1500 for the thing. Not to mention I have 8GB of RAM and 2 HDD's. Your Baseline iMac gets you 4GB RAM, 1 HDD, and a lower grade video card,? all for $500 more than my laptop.

iMacs are not an easy HDD change. The problem with how iMacs are built is that the screen and chassis are one and the same, so an entire? process is needed in order to access anything inside of that kind of setup. Not to mention the terribly compact design makes the cooling system (if you can call it that) as about as efficient as a 4 year old laptop. Sorry, but compared to a tower, where HDD's are literally hotswappable, iMacs completely fail in this ease of modification arena.

I'll probably "go back to PC" from my MBP. Even though my MBP actually is a PC. OS X does slow down, it does freeze, it does not always work. using windows u mean a Microsoft product install on a MAC. even know u could do that a lot of ppl including my cousin trying to run a game on bootcamp they? still have HARDWARE issue and freezing, but what i really mean is why should i have to install another OS if windows can do all, I guess Apple can't do all without a help from Microsoft, so lets face it Windows gives u the freedom and Mac gives u %80 of the freedom so PC wins Mac lose. "tell? me a game a mac cant play" You mean to say OSX. The hardware in a Mac is fine for playing games. The operating system is god awful since it doesn't support DirectX natively. You'd need to run Windows in Boot Camp or Parallels in order to fully utilize those settings, and then that just means that you're running an? over priced Windows machine with an Apple logo on it.

Actually, that's a waste of money to buy a Mac Pro, just to emulate Windows in order to fully use the overpriced hardware that is in that Aluminum? contraption. For 2/3 (or less) of the price of a Mac Pro, I can build a custom PC that can match and or beat a Mac Pro in terms of specs and actual performance. :P

Drivers? All of mine installed and updated automatically, the only one I had to install manually was one for my graphics card which was completely optional, it would still be working fine if I kept the old one. Lots of computers can have touchscreens, but? no-one cares because Windows and OSX are both designed for keyboard and mouse input.

Impressive, but Windows 7 with its Microsoft Touch mouse does the same with the exception of multiple desktops. Just out of curiosity, why would you need multiple desktops?
