I wrote this yesterday, but it didn't post, so if you get it twice that's the reason. Perry's show was originally on Sat night opposite Jackie Gleason. Perry said they had a friendly rivalry and would call each other up to raze the other guy depending who had won the weekly ratings war. Perry eventually moved to weeknights when he became host of the Kraft music Hall. You may remember Ed Herlihy and his commercials? telling where to write to get those Kraft recipes.

I got to know Dorthy back in 2001 and believe it or not I sang with her at a Christmas Party In Tucson Arizona. Her husband Lowe and son own Fairfield Homes here in Tucson and I worked for them for 4 years. This is talent at its best, Dean Martin, Mr. Cool and those lovely McGuire Sisters. When I was younger, I favored Phyllis, but while viewing this video clip, I can't help but favor Christine, she is so cute. The McGuire Sisters were so talented and pretty, I can only fantasize going back to that era and being in a position to meet any one of them and have a? shot at romance with them. The Mcguires did a much better impersonation of The Andrews Sisters when they weren't even trying, like in such recordings as "Kiss? Them For Me" & "Muskrat Ramble." Maxene Andrews once said, "The McGuire Sisters were fine once they stopped copying The Andrews Sisters." "Picnic" (aka Theme From Picnic) was composed by George Duning and tv personality and comedian Steve Allen for the film 1956 film "Picnic" starring William Holden and Kim Novak. Most of the recordings of the song have it played in conjunction with "Moonglow" such as Morris Stoloff's hit version from the film, but the McGuire Sisters had a hit in May of '56 all by itself.

Marcie, got your nice note. Originally I thought as you that Moonglow and the Picnic song were one and the same. However a friend told me that, that was? not true. With a little research I found out that the movie's musical director Morris Stoloff had combined the Picnic theme with a 1930s song Moonglow for the film's dance scene. Because of that the two songs were then oftened performed together as though they were one. This version here is the Picnic song by itself, which I much prefer.

: I agree with 98% of what your wrote here, however, even the Rock N Roll acts of the 1950's to approx. 1963 still wore the suits, sport coats, wing tip shoes, pleated dress slacks, etc. etc. . I'd have to say the end of "class" came with the British Invasion of 1964-65. American "Beach" music didn't help much either. When we began to open up? our boarders & minds to outside influences, we opened up a whole lot more that we , today, possibly regret.

The comeback was a great success with lots of TV appearances, club and theater dates. Their last appearance was on a PBS tribute to the 1950's music about three years ago, that is constantly rebroadcast during PBS pledge drives. The strange and sad thing is that although their 'comeback' years lasted longer than the original career, they never made a recording as a trio, although? several projects were announced but never materialized. Phyllis did cut a duet with Barry Manilow.

Their noses all appear narrower than in previous videos. They definitely had work done over the years but it was of the very highest quality. I met them some years ago and had a conversation? close up and they looked just sensational and very natural. It think they've worked hard to keep fit and healthy. Their warm, vibrant personalities have never wavered.

What is it that makes Godfrey so hypnotic to watch? Is it that Wallace Beery-like voice? Or what? He's always fascinated me, since early childhood, and I'll comb through the kinescopes at the Paley Center for Media in New York looking for clips I haven't seen. (He? and Beery were both doing some radio at the same time and I wonder if he ever interviewed Beery. Probably not, but if so, I'd love to hear that.)

I was beginning to wonder if they were a studio group with 1 picture and a discography, but no names and no history behind them. This makes them real. I knew there had to be an Archie Bleyer/Arthur Godfrey connection. What a marvelous performance and production. Thank you.
