It does NOT at all create more spending, that`s silly!. All costs of doing business are passed on to the customers. Union wages mean high prices. So, customers have less money, and THEY spend? less, the equal amount you claim unions spend MORE! It is just balanced out. More to union, equal amount less to customer. Why would anyone want to give more money to a union guy? Deny your own family? Hell no! Why do you think UAW is down from 1.5 million members, to under 400,000? People buy foreign.

I live in Virginia a RIGHT TO WORK state...I am a nurse and every person who has tried to organize is fired....I used to live in RI and belonged to the SEIU 1199...It is/was a very strong union, that protected the workers NOT the employers. Most people here are afraid to try for fear of being fired...How can this law? be changed??????

So, as a conservative? person (one that can think for himself)? why must I be FORCED to join a union? Unions simply "Re-Distribute" a workers wealth and pay for the Democrats platform, plain and simple. Without 99.9% of the money from the Unions and the spin from the 99.9% Liberal media behind them, the Democrats would not stand a chance at any election based on FACTS. @Wrenchbender412i they do drag the economy as a whole. (1) They manipulate the free market labor price by charging the max wage vs? the equilibrium wage, thus reducing the demand for labor. That hurts people trying to find a job. (2) If the tax payer or the business have more money by paying people less the demand for inputs such as steel goes up and guys who run those industrys?

@compa008 Unions do not drag an economy down. Look at countries with highly unionized workforces like Germany, Japan, and Brazil. They are part of the free market just like management that engages in price fixing and market manipulation through futures contracts and margin buying. They help economies by levelling the playing field between labor and capital. If we deunionize every single industry our economy will continue it's collapse because Americans will have no? purchasing power.

I retired from? the service in 1994 and have worked in the electrical trade since then. I live in a right to work state, Florida. If anyone thinks that a right to work state is fair and good for the working class, your in for a serious reality check. Yes, some unionized trades may have gone too far with some of their demands, but just wait till the right to work crap kicks in. You'll see. I won't have to explain, you will experience it. Good luck people, prepare yourselves for the inevitable.

Here in Cali, a Democratic Governor like Brown himself is going? against unions for the same reasons Republicans are opposed to it: unionized workers demanding higher salaries for nothing, retiring younger than the average person, them engaging in poorer quality work, not willing to be aware of their conduct in the workplace, seeking special handouts, them wanting to establish their own rules, and jeoparding others chances of having it fair in the workplace.

Let? me give you a reality check about the ability of union to "manipulate free market wages". My dad was a miner back in the 70s and 80s, at the time ore prices were at all time highs, even good by todays stanards. And yet my dad still had to fight like hell every couple years at contract time for a $.25 raise. The company was making record profits, but they still didn't wanna give a measely quarter an hour. It's a different picture than the one you painted eh?

I hate to be the one to break this to you, but working on a farm as a kid doesn't exactly give you the skills to work on coal fired/Nuclear power plants. If it did every farm raised kid in this country would be a skilled craftsman. If you took your job to move up then why are you crying about it?

We could compared the risks of each job (yes there are risks), but that's retarded. I could make that money back? on the family farm, hell there is no child labor laws protecting farm children when I was growing up so don't give me this 110 degree stuff, they know the risk.

You wanna work 9-5 in a bank in a perfectly safe, and comfortable environment and make as much as a man working in 110 degrees on a road crew with death staring him into the face as dumbass drivers fly by at 70 mph. And you think that your college degree entitles you to it. You can't do his job or else you'd be doing it. No more than you could do my job. You obviously are not getting the point. You've taken the time to educate yourself and you've become successful. I'm not bashing that. I'm upset that there are others (not yourself) that have absolutely no trade skills or very little and are making more money? than me. I can do their job, but they can't do mine. The job market is tough out there. The point is that these employers can hire more labor by reducing their wages on employees. I have the utmost respect for people of trade skills. :-)

Yea and saw a nonunion company in KS miss a critical deadline on a baghouse tie in by a month and cost the customer millions of dollars, so it goes both ways. Guess who they called for the next baghouse, Union Boilermakers. Yea I've met alot of locals like you, they wanna make my wages but they don't wanna make the sacrifices I make to get them. So? they sit on there butt with their crappy 9-5 job so they can be home every night. Like I said, get off your butt or quit crying.

That's funny because every "out of date" trade union has apprenticeship? programs that pair real life on the job training with classroom schooling. Also many trade skills do not have to be unionized to create opportunities. Especially in the electrician industry; unions have bullied and vandalized non-union businesses? into becoming unionized. My grandfathers shop is still non-unionized to this day and because they aren't they can attract some of the best electricians around and they make damn good money. They grew 2-3x times faster than the unionized business and employed more workers for their size and get more business.
