I pass the man made mountain everytime I go into to town as I? live past it about 25 mins and heard about this happening, and kinda didnt believe it but you are so lucky to have friends with you and that is the way we all should do is travel with friends and let people know where and when we plan on returning so that if we dont call or show up to say we r good people will send help. Its not Avalanche "Country" maybe, but you were riding Avalanche "Terrain" this is trerrain steeper then 25 Degrees regardless? if its Ontario, or BC it all depends on the slope the snow rests on. So if you dont want to carry a beacon or probe you have 2 choices: 1 - Ignorantly risk your life every time you choose to climb a hill like that, or 2 - stay off the steep slopes and stick to riding your "not Avalanche Country" Terrain

I'm a professional ski patroller trained in avalanche rescue that resides in BC, but grew up in Sudbury, snowmobiling and ice fishing like all the other kids. I get it they weren't expecting this, I would'nt have back in the day. The OFSC should use this to educate people. There should be a small amount of basic avalanche assessment and rescue in order? to get a snowmobile license. Makes sense. Most governing bodies follow a re-active risk management policy.

The problem is no where in ontario do we have this kind of terrain, so? no one carries the equipment for it (beacons and probes). Ive grown up riding sleds in ontario my whole life, so when i get to a new spot, I do not automatically think of that area being a potential avalanche hazzard because I have NEVER thought of it before. Its like going to the desert wearing a life jacket, "just in case you might drown." See what I mean?

two reasons why this is fake. 1st is, he has memorized the story and? rehearsed it, like an actor. How can you tell? Watch someone who is retelling you a story that means something to them. Their eyes move, they're animated, you can almost see the emotion they were feeling at the time, whether it's excitement, or fear. This guy, nothing. The story meant nothing to him. 2nd. That deer is the cutest! My family hunts every? year and if they came in contact with a poor little deer like this stranded on a frozen lake they would of done the same thing. For all we know these guys enjoy the sport of hunting as well. Not every hunter is white trash wanting to kill every animal the come across. Hunting has its purpose and that has been a fact and a tradition since humanity took it's first breaths.

hey guys i completely respect your tips and everything? i think you are formidable survivalist but i just had one question. Isn't it dangerous to keep all your gear together like that. I understand that it is compact. But it kinda scares me. If for some reason (anything can happen in the wildernis) i lose my machete down a hole, a river, a crevace, a cliff i lose aaaaaallll my gear. leaving me quite stranded. While if i keep my gear all around my body i make losing something a smaller issue :/.

I love how you are so minimalist. It's funny how one can't see the forest through the trees. I have been in the? habit of strapping things-to-things for a while but it never occurred to me to strap it all to my machete.Now I'm good to go no matter where.
