Yea, I can explain it very easy. The poor don't pay federal income taxes. In fact, the bottom 48% of wage earners don't pay federal income taxes. They either get it refunded to them, or even get back MORE? than they paid in. We have a progressive tax structure, so they more you earn, the higher percentage of your income goes to taxes. In other words, the higher income earners are already paying their fair share, and several other people's fair share.

The tax cuts are a lesser of two evils, fundementally atleast. Also it is harder to pick winners and losers like a bailout do. The? bailouts didn't cut taxes, they gave out money from the goverment via inflation and tax. Basically, getting money from goverment and keeping money you earn are differnt. It is really that simple. But I'd argue for a fair tax that is more transparent with less loop holes that we have. And I don't think Keynesian economics is viable.

You really bring up a good point; just how is it that there isn't enough money in the Social Security system to pay out all the checks? Sure, they probably came? up short when the system first started, as all of a sudden there was this huge expense without any previous income intended to fund it, but over the years, the rate of population growth should have created a surplus of funding to support retirees. So how are we not able to afford to give our retirees their pension checks?

My argument is less about fairness or protecting the rich and more about reality. The only way a government can sustainably provide social services is if everyone pays? their fair share. The purpose of government isn't to redistribute wealth. Government allows small individuals to pool their money together.
