Nah, I don't think he deserved an oscar for any of these nice to average movies. He should have worked more in the late 80s when everybody wanted him. Difficult roles in outstanding movies by the? BEST directors. He wasn't devoted to cinema and art, which explains his crappy choices in the 90s. Heck, even Bruce Willis realized the potential of Pulp Fiction and he isn't exactly an intellectual. This should have been Rourke's role. Sadly, Rourke didn't fight the system, he only fought himself.

From what I can remember it did show him? in his heyday, and the younger wrestlers he works with seemed to be doing ok. The film wasn't a well-rounded view of all wrestlers, but shows what can happen to the unlucky ones. Plenty of wrestlers work for years in indy promotions & never make it, many struggle financially and health-wise. I saw it as a cautionary tale rather than a wrestling documentary,but I do appreciate that to a non-fan it might send the wrong message about the business as a whole.

This is a cool good way to get publicity. I don't know if you ever saw the confrontation from the character Ladka on taxi with Jerry the King Lawlyer or not. The guy made fun of pro wrestlers and I heard he did have some matchs againt women prowrestlers, Jerr Lawler just? slapped him out of his chair on some talk show. Another incident on tv that I recall is when John Stosell said that pro wrestling was fake and David Shultz bitched slapped the reporter slaped him acros the side of his head.

What I meant to say was, he made it LOOK like he lost himself in the role, because thats the job of the actor, to totally become someone else. Of course you need a certain amount? of control because these things aren't really happening to you. You have to act. Randy isn't exactly a person that looks like he's in complete control of his life or actions anyway, but Rourke made it look like he disappeared into the role, which is the ultimate job of a great actor

I agree with you, but no he never lost himself in the role. NEVER speak? for others when it comes to these things. Mickey said himself that losing yourself in the role would be a negative factor when it comes to acting. Gary Oldman (another actor who has always been said to have lost himself in his roles) says that you must stay in absolute control of a character to let the audience assume such a thing. Either way, Mickey did great.

He does his mumbling and starts to cry but then quickly recovers and dismisses the class. This scene parallels that one IMO. brando was an acceptional actor, but Dr. Moreu and Don Juan were really his last two films where he really showed his talent for the last times. His? role in The Score made it seem like he was uninterested in the part so much so, that the performance felt like a parody or caricature.
