This is great presentation, technique and advice. The challenge lies in the stultifyingly boring , grey substance most business types actually comprise. Corporations are like people, They believe a story exists in everyone, but it really is just amalgam of bad B and C storylines of all particular plots most impactive on the individual's POV. Businesses lack story because they lack depth. They are interested in money, whereas people have something more.? Rarely enough for real storytelling.

I meant to say predictable*. And actually, now that I think about it I disagree with the shonen claim too. I think that you're only looking at popular shonen manga, instead of actually looking at the shonen genre as a whole. There are countless shonen manga that don't even involve fighting or? supernatural things, so it's really unfair to compare shonen of the past to shonen nowadays and only looking at the mainstream ones.

I never said that only mature themes make a good story. I said the best stories in shounen are ones that address more mature themes. There's a subtle but very big difference. Second, the title isn't misleading because this video was geared towards a very specific audience in the youtube anime community. I disagree that mature themes will only make good stories. Pixar has done? a great job with their themes, even Studio Ghibli's films. It's all down to writing. The big 3 are geared towards young boys and is for a general audience, so it will be lacking in "mature themes." Perhaps you have just outgrown the genre as you aren't really it's target audience (not that teens & 20s can't enjoy it). Your title is also misleading since you mainly talk about shonen which is one genre of many in anime...

One thing you mentioned: If I'm not wrong, you said dragon ball impulsed the fantasy/sci-fi? genre, but I actually think it was hokuto no ken which started it all. I think what makes a good manga/anime is Story/Plot - Characters - Art, in that order. My favorite manga/anime is Rurouni Kenshin, One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist,? Hunter x Hunter, and Gundam (mainly Universal Century series and Wing). From what I read, Battle Royale is the best one that is completely character-driven. The story/plot is a simple kill or be killed plot, but seeing the flashbacks and learning each of the characters makes it well worth reading.
