Tet and Hamburger hill kinda sum up the war in a nutshell. We did not lose the battlefield in general, but our "victories" were just pieces of bloodshed in a quagmire. We were trying to defeat the enemy while being restricted from doing the very things that had to be done to beat him. The lesson: fight to win, or don't fight at all. Vietnam, and the movies about it, raise one question in my? head: is it futile to uphold any humanity/morality in war? Is it now Kurtz or don't bother?

The claim of NVA troops in Tet-offensive is fail history. North Vietnamese forces did? not participate in Tet-offensive. It was total NLF-offensive and NLF managed to kick out ARVN and US forces from rural areas on provinces. Westmoreland's bragging that Americans and ARVN won the Tet is total nonsense. He never wanted to remember that his forces were forced to leave large rural areas.

There are certain facts not told to Americans and especially American Military people. 1. Tet-offensive was ONLY NLF. There was no NVA troops in action. This is well studied and confirmed. 2. NLF withdrew from towns and cities when they found that Americans were ready to destroy these towns by air forces don't giving shit about civilians. 3. And most import: American and ARVN troops were mopped out? from rural areas and NLF took the control. And now they could recruit more and more soldiers.

Both Vietnam and Afganistan have? proved so far how lousy these over hyped military powers like USA and Soviet Union actually can? be. Determined guerilla forces can indeed humiliate them very badly. You can be fooled by these "body count"-figures and statistics (which were mostly based on fantasies). Even US military statistics have shown that 75% of their combats were actually Americans ambushed by Vietnamese. And only 2%? of their "search and destroy"-missions led to non-ambush battle.

As if I can find someone like that here. Based on what I know, the VC won that unbalanced war practically because of the supports of most South VietNamese people. And frankly I find it unrealistic and illogical to think? that they can have it by terrorizing civilian. Such actions may bring fear, but never support, especially when they were doing it on South Vietnam territory.

Actually, that's happened, But unlike American people who would make an open protest countrywide, they did it silently by providing support for the VC as well as joining their rank. If you read a bit about VietNamese history, they have fought and drove off many other invaders in the past. It was almost a tradition to them, they fought because they do not accept a "peaceful life" under the influence of another country. Whether it's US, France? or anyone.
