That's a misunderstanding of statistics. Average life expectancy was low, but that's only because the death-rate of pre-adults was so high. If you made it to 15 or so, you could expect to live about as long in 100 or 1000 CE as 1900. We've really only tacked on 10-20 years to adult life expectancy in the last 70? years or so, and that's mostly down to antibiotics.

Couple of things there. First, there's the hard political reality, still seen today, that responding to a rumour can sometimes give it legs. If Richard had produced the boys to quell the rumour, it could have legitimized the accusation. Rumour-quashing is a tricky business. Then there's the obvious fact that just being a child was dangerous in those times. Disease often kills the young and old, and the odds of making it to adulthood in that era were not great, even? for the rich.

The trouble with the "savage" narrative isn't that Indians weren't cruel, but that they were no more cruel than the Europeans or anyone else in the world for that matter. The "noble savage" is a newer, but no less belittling narrative IMO. But I guess at least it manages to subvert the "we're the bestest ever and ever and those jerks deserved? whatever we did to them" narrative that uneducated populations the world over seem to naturally fall into.

It's my understanding that Native Americans were not one group of people but many tribes with their own traditions and customs. I think it's possible that you could find tribes in both? ends of the spectrum and everything in between.

Vergil isn't a trustworthy source: Henry VIII's court historian and writing about events that took place when he was a child anyway. Croyland (post-facto) says only "a rumor was spread" that the Princes were murdered. The only real source is Mancini, and even he? reports no more than that rumors were rife in London. However, the Ricardians can't get by one fact: Richard, despite the rumors, never brought them out to be seen, even though were they alive it would have been the obvious thing.

Assuming these were the Princes, there's no? indication that they even died during Richard's reign. Myself I think Henry Tudor was perfectly capable of having them done in- he never shirked a murder if he thought his crown was threatened.

And Jones mentions that Richard was the victim of smear, but Richard himself used character assassination during the rebellion of? 1483, pointing out the evils of his enemies, despite the fact that he had himself three acknowledged bastards. Anyways, if the contemporary sources were not wholly complimentary to him, the claim that his reputation is the result of Tudor propaganda is bunk, since the bad feelings began during his own reign, not in the time of the Tudors. he wasnt a monster though.

On the sources that paint Richard as good- He mentions only sources from Richard's own native North England. Thomas Langton benefited greatly from his reign, and the city of York as well, so its really no surprise they mourned his death.? Nothing is mentioned of what the South of England thought of him, and they usually disliked and distrusted Northerners.

While i am a fan of this and Jones, i have a few problems with his treatment of this subject- -on the princes fate; skeletons were found, but we'll never know enough about them, so we have to deal with the evidence we have. Jones fails to mention the contemporary sources we have, the Croyland Chronicle, Great Chronicle of London, and the work of Polydore Vergil, all point out that? Richard's own contemporaries believed he was guilty of the crime, whether or not he was innocent or guilty in fact

i really like that you seem to be on lookout for new music to dig into. when you enjoy radiohead it`s (in my opinion) obvious that you have an ear for good music. i`m just gonna list some good albums for you to check out; what they have in common with radiohead is that it`s all good music made by real musicians. i try to keep in mind that taste? in music is a personal thing and even if it`s sometimes very hard i? always try to respect other peoples music of choice. here is my suggestions for you

radiohead sounds very different from one album to the next,? and their sound is quite unique.as you said yourself; a hint of coldplay,a little similiar to muse etc etc.assuming that it is the vocals you are reffering to? It`s hard to give any recommedations without knowing what you like about radiohead; is it the distinct high pitched vocals? the variety of genre? the melancoly (from amnesiac, king of limbs and kid a) or is it the killer genius songs like paranoid android (my personal favourite)

Pablo Honey is possibly worth starting with but it's? them finding their feet. The Bends onwards is magic. This album makes a lot more sense once you've listened to their older stuff and how they've evolved. I'd recommend listening chronologically; The Bends, Ok Computer, Kid A,? Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief, In Rainbows and this, in that order.

Wait... so there's no partying or drug use on? Harvard at all? The way I saw it was Mark Zuckerberg was jealous of what he THOUGHT was going on at Finals clubs. The party was not meant to be a literal representation... it was in his mind. Why would a club hold a booze/drug party on a Tuesday evening, anyway? And what was wrong with the performances? the social netowork was? garbage that basically showed harvard in a bad light as nothing more than frats heavy partying and drug use. while some of this exists all on colleges, its like 5% of the population that lives on campus. the acting was also nothing to rave about, and justin timberlake was a stand out as the worst actor in the film. if it wasnt about facebook then it would have been just another movie, there was nothing special about it at all.

Wow. I've never heard anybody consider the fact that TSN defines a generation as a BAD thing before. TKS is a very good movie, but TSN is great. It's funny, topical, and most importantly, smart. Not only are the characters? smart, but the movie respects their intelligence instead of mocking them for it like every other movie or TV show about computer geeks. The visuals are fantastic and the actors are terrific, and yes, Timberlake is a standout.

Not really - there's one very sweet family scene where the stuttering Bertie tells them (Margaret is the other kid) a bedtime story? he's making up on the fly. He's given a lot of credit for being one of the first? black musicians to cross over to white audiences, but in order to do that, he had to have one hell of a show, which he did. And he had to have amazing soul in his playing, which he does. As I told another gentleman in these comments, see King's Live at the Regal for one of the high points in the blues. Also, having a video of yourself playing by yourself in your garage does not give you credibility. Knowing what you're talking about does.

i think you're making a mistake here. santana probably will beat King? in terms of sped, but if you listen to santana live you'll notice he fucks up quite a lot of his own stuff. therefore i believe santana won't be able to beat BB King in preciscion. the way BB King plays his solo's is always spot on, even though he plays on a different rhythm than his band. so i'd say santana and BB King are at most evenly matched :)
