@MegaOtaku12 As far as I know this only applies to "Buying" then again the money to rent may need a loan at first but that's what a jobs for. And for those who are asking about jobs, there are occasionally regular jobs available in major places like Tokyo and Osaka but you really can only get a normal job if you have a good understanding of japanese? almost fluent I guess.

Come to Germany. It really weirded me out at first, but they have absolutely no qualms about blowing their nose, even in the middle of a conversation. In fact, they think it's terribly rude to sniff your nose, and if you do that they will immediately offer you a tissue.? ^_^ (I still avoid blowing my nose in public, though).

I hear a lot of general horror stories about foreigners and their experience but I don't get to see how that person really is/was in Japan. Unlike in Germany, which is where I come from, where the awareness and air time of war and crime related documentaries for example is still enormous and the german government is willing to take the full blame for all atrocities committed during that time. Although I do have to point out that picking up your bowl in Korea and Japan, is considered bad table manners. From what I noticed, most people would move their face towards the bowl rather than the bowl towards them, which is different from most of the other asian? cultures. But I have seen some Japanese people pick up a small bowl to eat. I think today's generation is a lot different now.

Plus, as many secularists emphasize time and again, Christmas was originally a PAGAN holiday, and it incorporates a lot of pagan symbols. Americans here that DO reemphasize the Christian aspect of Christmas I think are usually seen as goofy or dorky. At least that's how I look at them. They're just desperately trying to cling to the "original meaning" of a holiday whose meaning has been changed so much over the last several decades here. It's more or less the same in Norway as well. You are not supposed to be happy about compliments, but rather turn them down. Especially if it's with compliments of your looks or skills etc. If you agree to the compliments then you are kind of? seen as self-centered. It's called "the law of Jante". I also think all of Scandinavia also has this "law". I don't think this would be a problem if I ever went to Japan. But the rest is another thing entirely.

I don't think it's for extra-marital sex. Privacy is a problem in Japan. I don't know if teenagers are usually sexually active, but there are so few places to "do it" (FORGET in your own place! your parents won't allow it!) that they might save up to come here and do it. Hmm.. thats strange. I've watched quite a lot of Japanese television, and I actually felt that women were respected (though maybe not varied enough?). The women comedians I mean... thats a different story, but they do crazy stuff to try to be funny. But a lot of the shows I've seen have women guests? who are very respected & their advise is valued, or women who are hosting and are obviously respected, kind of as the leader in that case for the show.

Don't, I've gotten "a peek at the inner layers of the onion" when I spent summers there, the only reason that statement has any backing is that there aren't any real measures to prevent racism there. So without those measures people can point to the occasional no foreigner signs, which are usually on sex places and other stuff you don't want to go to anyway. These people criticizing Japan? usually have far less experience than those who say they love it.

Japan is a lovely country if you compare it to the US? for example. Racism still heavily exists in the US (look at Zimmerman), where as to in Japan racism towards foreigners is, as this guy says, a result of their behaviour. Not just because of the colour of your skin. If you measure the US by the same standards, it would be a HORRIBLE country. I went to a Canadian animation school, all different people came to Max the Mutt animation? school from all over the world and many dropped out for many different reasons. some dropped (i dropped out becz of $) out because Manga and Anime was frowned upon and American schools didn't accept this as a style of art when asking artist portfolios. Oh, you're Polish. I like? Poland, I haven't visited there yet, though. I didn't know Polish grammar is similar to our language. You're right, there are many different various of the same syllables in Japanese words and different kanji characters are given to each syllable. Even Japanese people are often confused by that. In this sense, our language needs to be improved or simplified more.

Thanks for sharing :) Obviously from my perspective, english alphabet is soo very simple, to the point of putting single letters together which make a specific word. I've tried learning japanese and it's? fairly hard, mainly because of different variations of the same syllabes, depending on the context. Also calligraphy is fairly difficult to remember if you don't practice writing/reading on daily basis. However, japanese grammar is very similar to polish grammar, my native language :)

I totally agree with you! I never liked it either! I took 3? yrs of French &now I'm in my 2nd year of Japanese. I enjoy Japanese more than French & find it easier sort of.Probably b/c of my interest in it xD But it's not much harder/much different than any other language except for kanji,but teachers usually go slow enough.Hiragana & katakana are fairly easy to learn if you study.Then again, I like learning languages. There's one Leeuwarden (The Netherlands) also known as "De Wirdumerdijk" where it's quite literally every man for him/her self. There's a shopping crowd on narrow sidewalks, an ill defined bicycle and car road where pedestrians are allowed too. And to top? it off they make a market square out of it on fridays. Well, after two unsuccessful relationships with japanese guys, I can definetely relate to this. I always had trouble with my family because they couldn't see my relationships? as normal ones. And really, culture is something that you cannot overcome, sometimes. They did their things and I did mine. The food was never good enough, and all the effort you had to make to bare some awkward situation was never enough, too. IDK, just sharing my experience.

But what you say is true, almost every fight we have had is due to me feeling like he isn't around? or cares, over friendships which I'm still confused on...and it was hard for me to understand that with the Japanese they really never cut off exs...they just kind of ignore them but they never dismiss them completely...so you have to get over jealous notions...or at least I did...real quick. part 2: I got the chance to ask him some questions about it via email and he said there are mostly? university students going to the events because high school students are too busy studying. i was at a japanese girl's high school and there were *cough* some lesbians there (including me :D). but just as J-pop isn't real life a girl's high school? isn't real life as well and i never heared anything about lesbians in Japan while i was there. When i came out to my host mum (two days before i left the host family) she thought that meant i was a boy in my heart (kokoro) and was quite shocked.

gay marriage isn't allowed in Japan, a japanese citizen can? only marry someone of the same sex when the partner is a foreigner and there is marriage equality in their country and they marry there. then the marriage will be recognized in Japan. So that almost equals no gay marriage in Japan ...

I don't think its right that we should think "we should be excused because we are foreigners", its so disrespectful and basically saying "we are right, you're wrong". This video has? actually put me on a downer, I love Japan and have been thinking of moving there for quite some time, learning the language, watching as many information videos as possible etc. My body is covered in Tattoos, and not even easily hidden and to find this video has actually made me re-think what I have been planning to do for AGES! I worked for tokyo disney sea, and there was a health club nearby that was a necessity for the very fit dancer-types...BOY did they have to jump through hoops to use most of the services there: bandaids (plasters) over tattoos, and sometimes as far as having it suggested? that they only visit VERY early or VERY late.

My friend and his dad were in Japan and the dad went to an onsen but he can't really speak japanese. So he didn't realize until later that a couple of the people in the baths might have been yakuza because their backs were covered with tattoos. He was the only other person in there besides those two men. So maybe in some places? they let them in. But how do these places know if you have tattoos if your clothes cover them? It's not like they would make you strip before entering an amusement park.

i think it is rather funny that people seem to think they know more about the way? japanese people think than the guy making these videos and living with them. the japanese have a group way of thinking so if a group of people he knows does not like it then it is more than likely wide spread

I'm happy to adjust to/adapt to/respect Japanese culture. The sexual harassment thing, the handling of money, the proper way to eat and sit. But I have a problem with the tattoo thing. Not being allowed in onsen, ok. Not being allowed in water parks, fine. But people's opinions of you being changed or? being looked down on. I don't agree with that. Judge the person on their character, not the marks on their body. This will be a tough pill to swallow for someone like me who already has (1) tattoo.
