Do you mean interests such as unconstitutional wars, renewing the Patriot Act, and signing the? NDAA into law?

The only people who? hate hate crime legislation are the haters themselves.

I wish Obama would work from the point of How Things Work vs How We Think Things Work. Its all well and good that he says anybody should be able to just hold hands and walk down the street, fine, nice words. But there are a lot of straight people who can't do that because there are a lot of people who naturally don't want to see it, you are told get a room etc. These laws need to be based on how we really work as humans. The world will NEVER be perfect so you have to start from? the right place

Because? the people are the one's who commit hate crimes, rather than the government.

-- It seems appropriate to make that assumption, but (unfortunately)I don't know for sure. After all, the U.S. *is* a self-proclaimed judeo-christian nation...and so both agnostics & atheists are often treated as 2nd class citizens. I *sincerely* hope that we(I? am agnostic) are included.

yes we do. but the problem is the usual legislation makes things more complicated and sometimes worse to help/protect those the law was written for. we should still be wary but we shouldn't avoid new legislation.?

You are missing the whole point. Bias crimes are the result of? a tendancy of some groups to single out others as exempt from the normal protections that apply to all citizens. I can still remember the days when gay bashing was "no big deal" and interracial marriage was an offense against public decency. Some fools still think that way because that was what they were taught. That a specific group, racial or religious, can be targetted by another undermines civilization itself.

We ARE allowing hate. Obama clearly states that he cannot outlaw hate. He does, however, make a distinction between "hate" and "the act of hate", the latter of which he addresses as a problem worth juristic attention. I get what you are saying, though. Ideally,? if I committed assault against a person, then it shouldn't matter whether or not that person is a heterosexual, Asian, Jewish or even a child. But crime can't be addressed with such ideals as I'm sure you understand

By: truthslap. on 14 Feb 12, 05:28:22
fantastic, that's one promise kept, only a litany more to go. all the promises made before 2008 seemed? too good to be true, and unfortunately they were. maybe this next term you'll actually make good on all the old unfulfilled promises?

ALL VIOLENT CRIMES ARE HATE CRIMES... NOT JUST THOSE THAT ARE PERPETRATED? AGAINST A CERTAIN GROUP. WAY TO VALUE SOME GROUPS OVER OTHERS

By: Vindaven. on 13 Feb 12, 09:49:57
