According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, soul is "music that arose out of the black experience in America through the transmutation of gospel and rhythm & blues into a form of funky, secular? testifying." I'd say she's funky and she definitely uses her music as a way of expressing what she's feeling inside. So a soul singer she is!

I really like this version. Could do without Weller who is mostly a composer, but Amy is spot on. I don't like when a song can't be adapted to another's soul; have you heard Kate Bush's unexpected version of Sexual Healing; a? total gem! I love that sort of thing. Re-owning and re-feeling it.

I see where you're coming from. But you can't say that just because black people had to struggle makes them brilliant? soul artists, because all though, and YES they certainly DID go through a struggle, there are many other social and ethnic groups that went through hard times in history (some of which still are) and yet they are not stereotyped as good soul performers. All I'm trying to say is just enjoy music for what it is. Don't dissect and analyse everything, life's hard enough as it is!
