I like Ron Paul, but some of his ideas are just unrealistic. Any reputable economist will tell you that Fiat money systems are superior to money based on silver or gold standards. This is why I was one? of approximately 24,947 people who voted for Ron Paul during the New York Republican primary on April 24th 2012. I worked near a polling station and saw less then 20 people showed up at the polling booths and this was in Manhattan! Meanwhile around 103,142 people voted for Mitt Romney and roughly 14,181? votes went to other, meaning Rick Santorum, who dropped out of the race based upon AP. Hey people! Ron Paul isn't saying to collapse the market, he is saying to let it decide what has value and what doesn't. A collapse would only be brought about by (mainly) the private banks, especially the federal reserve. His views on the economy are sound. The only point I tend to disagree with is the return to a gold standard. Simply, there is no gold in the US. Silver would work much better if you? absolutely needed to back it by something to limit the supply, which I don't feel is the case.

Ron Paul is one of the few honest politicians that can be found these days and it's a shame he is not the nominee for reasons of making a poor puppet. He is entirely right; there is no choice at the moment between Obama and McCain in any meaningful way. He also speaks the truth (ie. Georgia, the economy) and doesn't just spew the usual propaganda. HAHAH that wasn't growth. That was called the gilded age. The only growth was in the bank accounts of the top 1%, just as we are seeing today. Our longest period of growth was from 1776 untill 1929. Except for a few minor panics, the nation grew rapidly WITHOUT government intervention, and for the most part, we were? a prosperous people. The only reason we did well from the late 40s till the 60s was because the rest of the industrialized world was destroyed in WW2. The Board of Governors are not publicly appointed. I never recall voting for a Fed Board member. The Chairmen of the Fed appoint all of their members, and the Chairmen of the Fed are appointed by the President of the United States whether the people like it or not. The rebates you speak of from Government bonds are like post dated checks. US sells a 10yr bond today at 1% interest, but in 10yrs inflation grows? 5%. Our government lost 4% on that bond.

People like Jim Rogers are the problem. The wealthy elite sold the U.S. out in the 70's. Manufacturing was moved overseas. It was the wealthy like Rogers that moved industry out of this country.
