Of course, Rosemary Clooney's version is really great as well as the many other artists who've done it,? but what I like about this video is that it was pure improvisation, a mark or an experienced jazz artist, they just did this song right there on the spot without rehearsing it. If given the time and attention they could give to actually do a proper rendition I'm sure they could pull it off since Amy and Jools have great respect for standards.

But emotion and soul aside, she had a brilliant rasp in her voice, an incredible amount of vocal power, and just a singing style that was profound and versatile. If there are hundreds of unknown people who can write verses like "do you brush your teeth before you kiss? / Do you miss my smell?" or record an album like 9 then music is in very good shape. Maybe 9 is not such a great album as O,? but I believe Damien still deserves every bit of fame he´s got. Getting so much out of basically 5 chords (F, G, Am, Em, C) is amazing

My understanding: O was a really good album, Damien's singing is really heartfelt & the instrumentation is lovely - even if the songs aren't perfectly crafted the atmosphere created by him/Lisa etc really carries the whole thing through. 9 crimes however...perhaps "shit" was a bit strong, but it's hard to deny? that it's not as good/there are hundreds of people who could give a performance or write a song far better than this one who are nowhere near as well known as Damien...

Oh, Damien is possibly the best songwriter ever, he puts all his feelings to his songs and they were magical together! I still listen to them often but it depresses the hell out of me! That's why i love Lisa's solo...always makes me smile. But it's true there was a lack of certain depth in Sea Sew...Passenger is different...I even have the feeling she reffered? some of the songs to Damien...well 100 people = 100 opinions, right? :)

So I figured out what is going on in the final verse. I think she? tells him to think of her when he is in a foreign land because she cannot go with him because she is still bond to her father and I am guessing that if he is let go he will have to leave for one reason or another. Does anyone have a description of what actually happens in this song? I get that the judge put it to the girl to say if Jamie was guilty or not, and that she? and her father argued about this in front of him... But what I don't understand is a)Why does the Father saying he will quit the land act as a threat? and b) It sounds like in the last verse she frees Jamie but doesn't go with him and takes back all her jewelry except for one token he is to keep on his right hand. Is this all correct?

To me, who is born and raised in Northern Norway, it is quite easy to recognize similarities between my Norwegian dialect and Faroese spoken (and written, for that matter) language. Interesting, considering that there is a language research project going on with comparing different Norwegian dialect markers with,? among others, Faroese language. Well, enough from me.
